Probably many train-track-crossing accidents occur not because people misjudge, but because they don't even look. And they don't look because they don't even think.

And driving while on the phone?

It is indeed difficult to judge the speed of a train, but being on the phone, he had absolutely no chance. If he was really on the phone, it implies the driver was callous. The simple rule is if you see or hear a train, you stop. Saving those 5, 10, 15 minutes is simply not worth the risk.

He was a driver, possibly and uneducated guy; but look around you, are those guys in ties and suits any better? Only today, I was taking a U-turn from the correct position and this girl from the 3 lane (on the left) does the same and speeds, I barely stopped in time to avoid her. Meanwhile, she did gives the guys on the sidewalk a good scare. And she was oblivious all the while.
I see this all around me - it is maddening to drive here and sometimes to even live here with the selfishness you see all around.

And those innocent children. No value of lives here. Now the guy who was responsible for this is dead, who is to answer those families?

The regional news channels have aired the interview of the train driver that hit the school bus.

He claims to have started honking half a kilometer from the unmanned level crossing. He goes on to say that it was he who had called the 108 (Ambulance) and reported the accident.

The tragedy doesn't end there. The train was late by 4.30hrs and the School bus late by 30 mins or so. Had one of those been on time, this tragedy might have been averted.

Happened just a few minutes before I arrive at the scene.
The van was taking a turn and the speeding biker coming on the same lane, felt he could slide past the van at it's front, misjudged. Had he choose to ride past from the behind of the van there would have been no mishap. Fortunately he had his helmet on, but sadly left common sense at home.

Bikers... See that and take note: If a vehicle is turning right, overtake on left. If a vehicle is turning left, overtake on right.

If you don't follow this simple rule (and many don't) you may not live long. Yes, we all have to die, but why scratch somebody else's paintwork doing it?

Uh - stupidity isnt limited just to cars.

Actually it applies to all vehicles - even cars on Nh1, thinking they can slip past trucks.

Every vehicle that's turning gives cues, whether a quick look in the RVM, or change of lanes or if its an auto in gujarat - poke their feet out.

Moral is - ignore cues at your own peril. More so for bikers!!

Many of the folks give a scant respect when it comes to overtaking either from right or left. All that they see is a small daylight opening wherein they can squeeze their vehicle in the gap.

WARANGAL: Road transport authorities on Friday launched a massive drive against school buses in the wake of the gory accident at a railway level crossing in Medak district on Thursday.

The special drive was carried out in Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Khammam, Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Mahbubnagar districts.

As many as 148 cases were booked against erring school managements. Officials also seized 20 buses after they found them to be unworthy for transporting schoolchildren.

The breakup of cases booked during the drive are: Rangareddy 46, Hyderabad 11, Adilabad seven, Nizamabad 13, Khammam 36, Warangal 11, Karimnagar 12, and Mahbubnagar eight.

Just in the morning today, faced a heavy jam at NH8 due to road construction work in the right most lanes. All cars forced to drive towards the left. I was driving on the left most lane and not even a foot away from the corner and was appalled to see bikers trying to overtake even there also. A minor collision too could lead me with a minor scratch on the car but the biker could end up in the drain on the left.

Don't know if this has been posted before or not. But a pretty horrifying video of a biker trying to cross a overflowing bridge. Payed the price for foolish overconfidence. No idea if he survived or was saved. Let's hope for the latter.

Re the teain and bus collision I think we are not supposed to judge the distance or speed of an oncoming train. We are supposed to halt and let the train pass.

On the tracks, the train has the right of way, always.

Why waste time debating something we are not supposed to do??

How do these people ever get to make these videos? There are so many such videos specially of Leh Ladakh region where people/bikes/cars/buses have been just swept off or fallen over the cliffs.

I saw this report on the news channel. The channel claimed he didnt survive. The man was carrying Ghee for his relatives funeral! On seeing the video several times I felt the man was not in senses either drunk or something else.

We are very vulnerable as bikers, all it could take is a nudge and we could be gone forever. Let better sense prevail. Ride to survive. Always get back home in one shape. Every mishap, makes it more difficult for us to ride. Please guys don't give us a bad name.

I also don't understand why many bikers especially women, drive on the extreme right of the road. Everyday while driving to office, I find a lot of such people and overtaking them is very risky. On a two lane road, with most of the bikers on the left lane, there is very little space to pass if someone is driving on the extreme right.

In Goa another major issue is tourists on rented bikes, mostly traveling in groups are a hazard for other road users. Drunken driving, no lane discipline, stopping on the middle of the road to ask for directions and speeding to name a few. I guess, when the vehicle is rented, who cares about it.

The right side of the road is the safest, at least with a divider. You only have to mind one flank.

It's pretty dumb though.
