re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

I some how feel the Dzire story has a different tale. The Dzire I think tried to pass the conked off truck from the extreme right as I am guessing he must be at high speed and wanting to take a wider route as taking the inner route would have not made his car turn.

In taking the right side of the truck, he must have seen the truck coming from the opposite side and tried to quick time get back on his side of the road and bad timings of timings, just at that moment the truck must have hit it from the side dragging it till the other stationary truck and crushing it.

I could be completely wrong, just trying to decipher from the picture.

Pics and story from a group on FB:

XUV5OO and Ecosport accident around Baroda on NH8

Apparently a brand new Ecosport rear-ended the XUV at an angle. High speed accident. Both vehicles lost control. In the XUV, except the hired-driver, nobody survived. No seatbelts were used.

No idea about causalities in the EcoSport.

The Ecosport's front right tire seems ripped clean off the wheel (which is attached intact to the hub). Was this a tire-burst incident turned fatal? Any further details?

Most probably.

From the news link posted by amit_mechengg

Which truck driver in a 12 wheeler tanker will be speeding down when negotiating a hair pin bend?

Now the question modified: Which vehicle in this accident is most likely to be speeding when negotiating a hair pin bend?

For legal and privacy reasons I seriously doubt they will give you that information. They may have a police complaint against that family, that family may be approaching the police / courts / media claiming they were manhandled by a fuel pump security staff, etc etc.

So, on general principles itself, they would not be wise to post videos on youtube, or discuss what action they take with external third parties. All you can or should get will likely be a polite thank you note. Or they may call you as a witness assuming it does get into the courts.

Nitpick; to qualify for a Darwin the perpetrator has to "remove himself/herself from the gene pool", which did not happen in this case.

Accident in NH47 before Coimbatore.

The innova was driven by a 20 year old(!) college student, who survived while the 2 girls traveling in the UV didn't have that luck. All the 3 are PSG tech students.

As per other newspaper reports, the UV crashed into a parked truck and the loaded tata 407 rammed it from behind.

Horrific accidents. The one involving the Ecosport and XUV. The Ford looks new and the door handles seem to have ribbon tied to them and the passenger seat has plastic on it.

XUV-Ecosport accident seems like a case of racing gone wrong. Mine is faster than yours syndrome. I see it all the time. People get into race mode to beat the other guy who doesn't give up nor moves over to let the "winner" pass. Both end up going shoulder to shoulder, which is a sure recipe for disaster on our crowded roads. This looks like like one such case. May be Ecosport was about to overtake and XUV pride got hurt (how dare you tiny shoot past me?) and he didn't budge to give way or may be tried to cut into his lane to block his overtaking move. And that is when Ecosport hit XUV at rear flank, sending both flying.

Adding to the above, from the damage on the Xuv ,it seems he hit the brakes suddenly for some reason in high speed which the Ecosport driver would have not expected .

Could very well be a stationary or slowing xuv, sightseeing. I see a lot of these types, taking in the weather, having a smoke, on the phone, feeding birds, while parked on the right of an a highway.
Hell, I've seen the above while conveniently parked in the middle in case there's no divider.

Unfortunately no additional details available. The sketchy details available are from a relative of the XUV's driver.

Yes, it seems that way. Even I mentioned it in the original post.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

So the XUV has no rear protection at all? The ford has chewed right down into its mid ribs. Sure the ford was doing high speeds but the presence of a safety beam or a rigid chassis member would have deflected it somewhat.

Seems the manufacturer has tried to save weight by compromising on essential safety features. This is very similar to an incident in Dilli wherein IIRC a Dzire had ploughed into the back of a Honda City which too got chewed up in the absence of rear safety member(s).
