The dent on the side indicates a hit from the RHS while the dent on the windshield suggests a hit by a biker's helmet

The same is getting discussed in Creta preview thread too.

The original post on Motoroids hints on rear ending a truck, though again its just speculation. Link

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Contrast this with the bmw I just saw loaded onto a truck in sunnyvale - it'd been in a head on, the headlights / front grille smashed, bonnet folded inward like a piece of paper - and the body shell was fully intact. Didn't take any photos - the owner was standing next to the truck and looking quite sad at what had happened to her car.

My first reaction was, man thats a Jetta, presumably one of the safest cars around. What happened, were they not wearing seatbelts, did the airbags not deploy, can see substantial damage to the side of the car, and no curtain airbags deployed either, going by the pics.

Can you either post or PM me a link to where you found these pics? Would be really useful to know if the front airbags deployed.

People like me bought the Jetta pretty much for the safety, so a bit concerned by this incident. Also do the reports mention what speeds the car was doing?
Harry these pictures have been taken by me , I happened to be at the accident site 15 minutes after the crash . Front as well the curtain air bags of the Jetta did deploy , but unfortunately the crash was at such high speed that the vehicle had suffered damage all round , the tree against which the car dashed was also uprooted , the fire brigade had to deploy the "jaws of Life" to cut open the vehicle to extricate the injured as well as the dead.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

I watched the accident videos a few times. Here are a ideas that l got to minimize chances of accidents:

1. In intersections when two wheeler comes in to your path, turn right rather than left. This will take both vehicles away from each other. Other vehicles this will not work.
2. Use GPS and maps. You can figure out intersections a bit in advance. Will help in nights. Flip side frequent checks to the device.

Experts Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the details sanjz, a bit inappropriate considering it is an accident where people lost their lives, but the fact that all expected airbags did deploy
is reassuring.

I wonder if they had seatbelts on, both the driver and front passengers and the people at the rear of the vehicle.

Difficult to differentiate between the two accidents as alloys are not properly visible in 1st set of snaps. This one is SX diesel from markings and alloys. If one looks at the snap showing the rear of the vehicle, the tail lights look to be deliberately broken as there is no direct hit to tail gate.

I feel that this vehicle could be the same one involved in the accident where in all probability, a biker was hit ( depressed crack on windscreen) and then the mob turned it turtle and broke the glasses and windscreen etc. Its just a speculation based on snaps available.

But if this happens to be 2nd one, I feel they're highly inspired by the stupid TVC of Creta.

This is what i guessed and posted in the creta review page after looking at the crash test. The car is looking really top heavy, there could be more chances of rollover if not handled the right way.

This only means, the car is top heavy, which further means there could be chances of roll over accidents similar to the ecosport? Any views here ?

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Looks like 2 different crashes, though the alloy wheel design on both cars are the same.

In the first crash, front bumper is fairly intact. In the second crash photos, front bumper is missing.

On a different note, just look at the flimsy bar behind the bumper !
Looks more in line with what a Maruti hatch has behind its bumper, Leave alone what a Fiat Punto offers You. Ideally considering the price range, it should be much better than even a Punto.
Shame on you Hyundai, Giving all sorts of gizmos & cutting corners in safety

Also, seeing this I wonder if Indian Creta will fare the same as Chinese iX25 in crash tests??

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Hard to tell whether the 2 crashes are the same.

However, the 2nd set of pictures certainly has signs of a mob attack - meaning, it could be the mob aftermath of the first accident.

Smashed tail-lamps & rear windshield, without any other damage at the rear. Tons of glass fragments very close to the car (ie. low velocity impact), etc.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Different crashes, front bumper and grill is completely busted in second whereas first only right side is damaged. Sad if these are test drive cars and obviously the dynamics are not upto the mark for the power of the vehicle as usual.

ANI reports that a car catches fire near Akshardham Delhi. This looks like newMahindra Scorpio. Mods please excuse if it's a wrong thread to post such information.

Can these accidents be related to some flawed dynamics of the vehicle? Maybe handling or power or both? I will definitely wait for a TeamBHP review before final consideration.
