Well a car which is much safer than the alto won't result in the seat getting off the rails in a crash of equal magnitude but its not rare in serious front crashes like the one in the pic.
If am not wrong there were some guys from a reputed magazine (BSM?? or overdrive??) who had a great front impact with a round-about situated bang in the middle of some expressway few years ago, they were doing over 100kmph and the fully loaded innova (Airbags equipped) saved them from injury, and in that case as well they reported the seat coming off the rails. So i guess it had to happen with the alto and that its not very rare.
Also its not because of the rear passenger but due to the sudden change in state of motion.

It might be that the incliner assembly has collapsed/the rescue job resulted in this.

Here are few pictures of Random accidents that i saw while driving to Rishikesh for River rafting from Delhi and Back.

1) Tata truck i think - Minor accident
2)Ford Ikon -fatal crash ( looked like a old crash )
3) Tata - Had gone off the cliff on Dehradun-saharnapur road ( sorry for the quality of the pic , could not take more pictures as i was driving )
4) Santro : Badly mangled santro near Meerut
5) Tata again : Don't know which vehicle it hit.

Note : all the pictures were taken by me while driving from my N72 so just have one picture each for every accident.

The first 2 look like a result of high speed cornering. There should be a legal limit for these rigs. Or the owners should limit the speed to 60 or something.

The Van is used to carry explosive material from the authority that inspects it (i guess that is at Nagpur) to various police/army camps, and for other licensed purposes - like quarrying, fireworks, etc.

The norm is that Explosive is a classified good, and hence vehicles carrying it should have certain markings on it - similar to the markings on a Tanker.

That's only within the Kerala, once you enter Karnataka you are greeted with about 6-7 speed breakers and a gazillion pot holes. So forget cornering , if you could manage to sustain speeds of 40kmph at a stretch its a miracle.

I have never encountered speed brakers whenever I have entered KA (except at the toll booths)
I have encountered them in the cities which is logical as a speed check.
The pictures I mentioned look like some kind of a State Highway, where you do not normally encounter breakers.
Having speed brakers on a highway is not a good idea.
There is one on the NH4 near Chitraduga and I see atleast one truck
with its parts scattered due to that particular unmarked braker.

Having a speed locked vehicle helps as I found out whilst
travelling from Mumbai to Pune in a Sumo via Express way.
The dude stuck to the left- middle lanes and showed
his frustration at the owner who had locked it at 60.

Not a good idea but... Did Bangy Mysore recently. breakers almost every 2-3 km. Also highway thru bandipur and madhumalai also peppered witht the darn things. NH 4 In karnataka has them fron chitradurga all the way to haveri. Thinking of atarting a "people against speed breakers" movement, but unfortunately these humble lumps of tarmac have deep political connections, so you are

The humps in Bandipur is to see that the vehicles do not speed on those roads as the animals will be moving around on the roads.

Thats a bad one. Looks like some truck rear ended the bolero ( is it ?). Hopefully there were no passengers on the rear seat becuase th chances are very rare of them surviving a crash of this magnum.

It looks very surprising that the front seats are free of the impact ( atleast it looks like that from the pictures ). Is that blood on the front seats ?? anyone??

Also see the red cross on the last picture. Is that just a coincidence?

Similar accident happened to my brothers Sumo.

The driver wanted to go on a personal trip on a temple visit with his relatives. Driving out from Madurai, overtaking a vehicle a tempo come from the other side and he is also overtaking a vehicle. Both try to just flick it at the end.

All went almost well; the hook that was there on the tempo (that is used to tie those ropes) got stuck on the roof carriers side and pulled it out.

End result - from the A-pillar, side doors, roof and back right seats got out. Driver lost one eye and side of his face. Two of them sitting on the back seats got pulled out and got cut by the metal killing them instantly.

Vehicle was also scrapped out.

And this happened at around 10am in the morning!

That's very sad. Been on a road trip for continuous three days & was really shocked to see the way accidents occur / road discipline followed by fellow road users resulting to this thread

"IT WONT HAPPEN TO US" - will lead to nowhere. Instead taking more precautions will be of more helpful,if at all the trip is completely unavoidable or a pleasure outing
