A youtube video answered this question. According to the eyewitnesses, the overspeeding school bus jumped the divider and hit the lorry coming in the opposite lane. One eyewitness repeatedly told that the lorry was not at fault at all. It was the school driver who was at fault.

The bus crossed the divider in between and went on the wrong lane of the oncoming traffic.

6 powerlifters crammed into a Swift Dzire beggars belief and so does the state of the car. Once again, we have a Maruti that has literally disintegrated into bits.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

11 dead as Overloaded truck turns turtle on car and auto-rickshaw on NH-2

Truck was Over speeding and as soon it reached near the roundabout to take a curve turn, it lost balance and fell over the hatchback and auto-rickshaw, in which nine persons were crushed to death under the weight of the truck. Two other persons standing near the roundabout also succumbed to injuries.
Don't know when would the authorities will start doing a strict and vigilant check to stop overloading in trucks. Such owners should be penalised heavily.

It was a Dzire, as per news reports. Not sure if roof was blown off during the accident or during rescue operations.

It is disheartening and inexplicable why people drive fast in dense fog.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Its surprising that how the cops, only just by looking at the wreckage, can come to a conclusion that the car was speeding. I mean, how can one tell, whether it was doing 60 or 100 kph.

I guess experts the world over just need to call our desi cops for a quick analysis and save their precious time and money.

Overtaking goes wrong: Car flattened when overloaded truck falls on top of car and auto
Quote:
An truck fell on top of a car and an autorickshaw, tragically killing 11 people, in an accident that happened on the National Highway 2, yesterday evening. The accident happened at 4:10pm at Sauthra roundabout in Uttar Pradesh’s Sirsaganj district.

The hatchback car was said to be in the process of overtaking the overloaded truck from the left-hand side just ahead of a roundabout. There was an autorickshaw picking up passengers at the roundabout. As the truck reached the roundabout, it toppled, allegedly due to the high-speed and load it was carrying.

It seems likely that the truck driver braked for the autorickshaw at the last moment and lost control of the vehicle due to curve. The overloaded truck toppled onto the car (which was overtaking) and the autorickshaw, crushing its occupants, leaving 9 people dead. Two others, who were standing near the roundabout also died under the truck.

They do have a lot more experience than journalists... or us contributors to this thread!

Most accidents in fog are due to speeding, whether at 100, 60, or even 20. Hitting something the driver could not see in the reduced visibility absolutely says driving too fast.

Similar one from Kerala. Three 16-year olds on a Dio (looks like) hit by a truck; all three die:

Another innocent life lost. The way this girl has died, I hope the bike rider rots in hell.

"When the bike hit Girija, her clothes got trapped in the wheels and she was dragged for 100 m during which her head continuously hit the divider that broke her skull.""

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Again, speeding biker. Sure, bikers often do speed. But did the girl and her friend so what many Mumbaikars do - run across the road? And not using the zebra crossing?

There is no way to be sure. People using the zebra crossing get hit by bad drivers and riders too. Hitting someone at even 40 kmph too is enough to cause death, if the victim hits the footpath.

There is no way to pin the blame on someone without knowing the facts. Even then, much more information becomes available if the investigation is done properly.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Indeed it is hard to allocate blame, but the only excuse for hitting a crossing pedestrian is that they do so right in front of the vehicle when it is already impossible to stop or avoid them.

Bikers in Mumbai, I have no clue. here, many of them stop for nobody, not even each other. I suspect they are not even aware of what happens if they hit a person. I so often see bikers drive straight through a group of road crossers, eyes ahead, oblivious. Even when police have stopped the traffic.

Similarly, when the media says, "Vehicle rammed two-wheeler," I suspect that the missing bit is "... as it entered that impossible-to-stop zone," eg crossed straight in front, or attempted to get through a closing gap.
