Yes sir Prado it certianly is. Those pre 2000 models are a death trap they flip easily and most owners don't realise that till after. A guy and his entire family died a fruesome death on the Mumbai/Pune expressway when his grey import white Prado flipped several times. They are nasty once out of control!

While the topic of discussion is Land Cruisers I happened to take a couple of pics of this vehicle standing in connaught place. From the looks it looked like it had been parked there for a prolonged period of time.
Took it from my mobile, so sorry for the bad quality

This Lancer banged behind my friend's Hyundai Verna, in a twisty Kerala road. Verna escaped unscathed perhaps because of raised stance. Lancer's grill went beneath Verna's back bumper.

The estimate for repair for the Lancer was said to be around 80k.

YC this happened on 19th Mya 2009. I forgot to upload the pics. You might have seen the same M800 after it was repaired

More than raised stance, the rear ends of cars are always quite stiff as compared to front ends. The front end is designed to absorb the impact, but this is not the main consideration for the rear end design.

When our Baleno rear ended Accent, we ended up with bill of more than Rs. 1 lakh.

Lancer also has some expensive parts upfront.

No, very much a Land Cruiser.


Regarding Prado, this is the first time I am hearing that it is a "death trap"
So, by definition, every SUV is a death trap.
May be in India Prados are death traps, because, they are driven recklessly by Indians.

These are accident pictures of my Scorpio clicked a year back in Delhi when the car was being offloaded off the truck.

Small Flashback
We start off from Himachal for Delhi at 5:00 AM. Dad was driving ( has gone to himachal minimum 3 times a year from last 15 years) and had a clean record till now. I always doubted Scorpio's ability in sharp turns and was terrified when tyres screeched or the rear end of the car went its way.

At 8:00 AM, in that stretch for 3-4 kms a straight road is there and then a sharp right bend is there. We were crusing at 60-70 km/h, dad and me at front, seat belts bolted, mom and sister at back, seat belts worn because whenever dad braked heavily the tyres locked and rear seat occupants were thrown off the seat. Dad takes the turn, a maruti 800 comes from opposite side, to save him he cuts car to the right, now 2 tyres off the road, front left tyre goes into a gaddha (steering was turned to right to get back on road- biggest mistake), car jumps and after that car spins and we hear 3 loud BAMS and car comes on rest with driver side door touching road. We come out, everyone is fine thanks to the build quality. A very helpful man comes, takes us to his home, arranges for a truck, scorpio is cranked (came to life) and loaded on truck and we come back in a Qualis - very poor seats
Mahindra did a very poor job on repairing front and all doors are misaligned with gaps everywhere, that too after keeping car with them for 2 months and me and dad standing on their heads every alternate days.
Car is still with us but a lot of noise gets filtered in to our ears now. We do forget such accidents which is a good thing but we must learn something and hope he has indeed.

Bent body frame can never be realigned like before. These things are built by robots. I am surpsied you are actually driving it.

scorpios build saved all your family members from injury, it is indeed a solid vehicle. Dont you have ABS in your this version ?

Which dealer did the job ? I am sure you must have escalated the issues to M&M, what have they done for the issues.
