Whats with these folks overloading a Baleno and locking horns with trucks? Looks like a class circus act to me. Except it's not very intelligent. This phenomenon is getting so frequent, its starting to appear like a kind of fad or fashion or something. It started as soon as the Baleno started getting onto the road. I've heard more than half a dozen such cases at least. All same stupidity.

I can't pinpoint but there seems to be an uncanny semblance between this particular style of Baleno riding, if you can call it that. Maybe a particular mindset type of people who do not understand why a car is called a 5-seater in the first place tend to like and buy the car? And then start the can-of-sardines act? Or is it just me over-imagining?

It's not just Baleno, its all cars. People here buy cars for either of the following 3 reasons, although there are exceptions.
  1. More Space, equates to : to be able to carry as many people as possible
  2. More mileage : How much can I go at least possible cost to by pocket
  3. Show off : Badge value, and the combination of the above two
Most of the time it is this that prompts people to say "Hum sab fit ho jayenge" and carry on without a care. Fact is, now that extra weight would mean extra momentum, extra braking distance, extra power which the car did not have to start with. Overloading by 4 extra people could easily mean an extra 300 Kgs, probably a 20% increase over the gross permissible weight on the car and its tyres. Net result is this.

They decided to correct the mistake and not repeat it, while I am sure that they have saved a cool 5000 out of my insurance without doing anything at all - they must have billed the projector light after all!!

Although I am not satisfied with the amount, but finally Ford India decided to reimburse me and the dealer gave me a fuel voucher of 250 bucks (while 350 should have been the right amount), still I am happy over the fact that they very quickly realized their mistake and didn't hesitate at all to reimburse too:

Browsing Savagegeese YouTube channel and I found this gem.
"The Biggest Driving Mistakes and Bad Habits"
Very sensible points which I am sure most of us have encountered on the road.

The comments to this video though are brutal because it seems our Indian brethren in the US carry forward their bad driving habits to that country.
While most of his observations are not practical in our country, they are definitely worth adhering to.

Quote from the article
In a bizarre accident, three from Mira Bhayandar near Mumbai sustained severe injuries after the sports utility vehicle (SUV) they were travelling in crashed into the highway guard rail near Somatne Phata alongside the Pune-Mumbai Expressway during the early hours of Tuesday. The steel guard rail pierced through the car, leaving the three of the four victims severely injured.

This is happened before too on Mumbai Pune express way. Its a shame, the barriers which are designed to save you can do such damage. Looking at the Pic its a miracle that there are no fatalities. Hope they recover well.

Exactly, this should never happen. Wonder anyone reviewed the design of these barrier installations after last incident.

It is quite difficult to fathom how this could happen. Unless the rails were open at one end and the SUV rammed into the rail.
Important to drive safe and be careful to avoid high speeds on highways

I believe these rails are not sturdy enough to take the impact. I am thinking, as soon as the car hit the guard rails, one of the joints came off and went through the car.

If you see the picture of the accident after zooming, just outside the rear screen you can make out that your quoted rule has been followed in this case. Seems like either the crash happened at the start of the guard rail or maybe at a point where the guard rail was not repaired after a previous accident.
