Another guess, there could've been a opening in the Median, but temporarily closed, therefore barricaded.

Maybe, the rider wanted to take a U-turn, so he turned his head and looked behind, before changing lane, but couldn't realize that the gap in the median is closed. And also, he was drunk, there delayed response from his body.

That looks to be a clue.

Not sure if there was an opening as they were not on the right lane to take a u-turn and was speeding as well.

But the barricades kept on the other side has to do something. Why they were pulled to that might remain a mystery!

It is sad to see that if no logical reasons found, then we categorize as drunk and driving. Couldn't it be a heart attack?

Two men travelling in a tempo were killed in a road accident that occurred in the Hasimara Gurudwara area near NH-31 under Alipurduar district.

Looks like the tempo driver lost control being a curved road and also jumping a speed-breaker.

Was the truck driver arrested? If so, installing CCTVs at crucial traffic junctions is a futile exercise. The tempo did jump over a possible speed breaker and went on to a collision course, possibly due to driver losing control finally colliding with the heavily loaded truck which doesn't appear to be speeding and is in its lane. RIP poor souls.

Another example to prove why having a dash cam is so much more important now! It should be the first item on every vehicle owner's accessory list.

For the trucker, if it wasn't for the cctv footage, he would've been rotting in jail for a long time for no fault of his. I hope the police don't have him arrested.

Was that a brake failure? The tempo seems to have its brake lights turning on after jumping the divider, but continued to go and ram on to the truck.

Braking should not have been needed at that point. Speed should already have been ok for the curve ahead.

I can't make out if this might have been a skid caused by wrong braking, or just plain bad steering. I leave it to sharper eyes and minds to suggest.

I think the steering got locked due to the jump on the speed breaker. Notice how he desperately applies the brakes while going in a straight line towards the truck. Steering lock due to the pinion having either got jammed in the rack or come out of it altogether, in my opinion.

May the victims rest in peace and I hope the lorry driver comes out of this incident without much trauma.

It was a mistake of the tempo for going over a marked speed breaker at high speed and I would assign equal blame on the engineers who decided to put a speed breaker on the middle of a curve! There has to be another speed breaker long before the curve begins so that drivers can clearly see and slow down. If it's like this, such accidents can happen to anybody and is more likely to happen to a hot hatch which can take that curve much faster. Mid corner braking can be dangerous for an inexperienced driver in a car without electronic aids.
But that said, in an ideal world a simple speed limit sign and maybe few rule strips would prevent such accidents but we live in a lawless land.

The tempo mostly looks like a Tata Ace or something similar, looking at it's puny tyres. It also seems it was heavily laden with cargo. Even if the driver applied heavy brakes or steering, the tempo went straight because of Inertia. Looks like even the wheels did not lock because of heavy weight.

Also small transport vehicles like Tata Ace (chota haati) are very much in demand because of their versatility. At least airbags and ABS should be mandatory of such vehicles, infact mandatory in every type of commercial vehicles.

And the car is a complete mess. Tree suffers only minor injuries. I'm afraid that this is a usual outcome of car v tree.

Of course, we have to ask the usual seat-belt question.

Seems like it's a Fortuner, not sure first gen or facelift. Might have hit the tree and stood up on it, crushing the driver's head, probably!!
