Also got to agree with the fellow member that Nano doesn't have enough space to implement crumple zones.

Exactly.

I was wondering why a mod didn't get in between with the endless CRUMPLE ZONE discussion because basically everybody talking about it has no idea what a crumple zone component/s really consists of. FYKI it doesn't consist of bumper, Headlight and bonnet. Those may be pedestrian safety friendly but that's a different thing altogether. Happened million times before on this thread. Then 'Sheel' stepped in.
I'm zapped and amazed that bhpians are having this discussion. Even in today's date. We'll, no offence to anyone but I request all interested to go and type "car body crumple zones" in any browser you choose and look up the first images mainly of volvo that should pop up. The coloured components are the ones. Definitely not bonnet, Headlight, etc.

That said, the Honda City in question doesn't have any "CRUMPLE ZONE" damage. It had the impact at the inner side of the right head light and all that's partially or maybe fully damaged is the bumper, bonnet, right Headlight and possibly both sides front fender. The grill maybe, but doesn't seem so. Now this doesn't amount to Crumple Zone damage! Please! There is no structural damage to the chassis or frame of the car or any deformation either.

The outer body panels which have your car colour on them and lights, bumper etc are not a crumple zone meant to influence passenger safety. Neither do they play a role in supporting the core structural integrity of the car. They are just a outer cosmetic shell to create the outer look of the car among other things. The City has 4+ Safety rating in case everyone forgot.

Outer body panels used on cars of different brands have different thickness, temper, weight, etc so they deform differently and that's the brands take on how to do it. VW/Skoda etc cars are generally heavier because each of their components and panels whether exterior or interior are built more sturdier and heavier. Even the plastics! That's just the way it is. On the other hand, severe structural deformations caused in other cars like Baleno, Ciaz, etc is another story. Don't want to get into that. Not wanting to defend or blame any brand though I have my personal preferences but just trying to clear the details to the best of my knowledge. Mods please correct me if I'm wrong on some part. Just my two cents folks. Hope it helps. Have fun and drive safe!

I doubt that it is that simple. A car can be flipped by putting one side of it up on to the curb or off the side of the road, and I don't think there is a skid stage to that. No doubt there is maths at the root of it, as it all depends on centre of gravity and forces.

Alto 800 hits scooter in Hoshangabad M.P.

The rider and kiddo were lucky to have escaped unhurt. Surprisingly the rider was so much in rage that he didn't even bother about the kid and went off to pursue the car driver on a bike.

The light blue Alto could not wait for the scooter in front of him to pass and moved to the oncoming lane only to crash and come back to his lane. (The dislodged bumper gives some signs of you know what) Also the second Alto driver driving like an idiot as if the entire road belongs to him. Both should be penalized.

Lucky to have escaped. I think the Alto driver focussed completely on the other Alto driving in the wrong lane. I feel junctions like these should get speed breakers or roundabouts. Only then the traffic might slow down.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

That Polo delivery reminded me of a similar incident that happened when we took delivery of our Honda Brio seven and a half years ago.
The sales person asked if i would drive it out of the showroom. I did not have much driving experience back then but I didn't want to look like a noob.
So, much to the apprehension of my parents, I started the car and brought it out onto the street. No problem. Then a Bolero pickup turned onto the street and came towards me. I thought I was standing right in the middle of the road, so I moved the car to the left. I must have been a little too heavy on the throttle or too light on the brakes because the next thing I know, I have landed the front left wheel in an open drain on the side of the road.
Luckily, being a light car, it was possible for a couple of workers who were nearby to lift up the front end of the Brio to road level while my Dad backed it out of the drain. No damage done.
From that point onward, I am very careful of the amount of input i give to the pedals.

What a moron victim. Leaving his kid like that without even checking. And did he literally just make off with someone else’s vehicle there in pursuit?? I dearly hope he was a local and knew the person who’s vehicle he took and made off.

I don't know if this has been posted earlier but it is outright dangerous way to guide the driver for parking.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Had an unfortunate incident this week. As I don’t have a space for parking my Venue, I park my car outside my house. Couple of days back, my neighbor while parking his vehicle, rammed my car. The portion near right side front head light got damaged. He was courteous enough to inform me about the incident and accepted the repair.

Went to Ambattur Kun Hyundai body shop/ service station to check if something can be done, they suggested the bumper to be replaced with insurance. Had it been a scratch, I would have ignored but due the impact, the bumper was pierced through. So I agreed to replace it.

Insurance was with MS chola and it was hassle free, went day before yesterday, surveying was done through online and it was duly approved. Went yesterday and got my bumper replaced. Total cost of the bumper with painting is 7900, I was asked to pay 1400, even though I had b2b 0% depreciation. When asked, they said minimum 1000 had to be paid for all claims and some consumables are not covered in insurance and I had to pay. I am not sure how true is this.

Some of the points which I noticed in the bumper replacement process,

- Venue bumper consists of 2 layers, the top layer is called the bumper and bottom layer is the black cladding which has the fog lamp. The huge grill is a stand alone piece

- In my case, as the damage was to the bumper which was the top layer, the bottom layer was not changed. The cost of 8 k is only for the top layer.

- Venue head light is not attached to the bumper, in case of any damage to the headlight alone bumper need not to be replaced.

- Fog lamp is a separate unit and it can be removed. In one of the picture, one can notice amount of gap in fog lamp cluster after installation of fog lamp.

I will let some of the pictures to do the talking.

Never get in the path of a novice driver (in fact any driver). Poor chap learnt the hard way.

Quite a strong impact if you look at the dent on the bootlid. The person could've lost both legs if this car had a bull bar at the back.

Even with zero dep insurance, compulsory deductible of Rs. 1000 is charged in case of a claim.

Consumables (such as nuts, bolts, washers, fluids and lubricants) have to be paid for unless you have consumables cover add-on in your policy.

Is that his chin that's responsible for the glass shattering, at the time of impact?

This looked painful, I hope the man is fine. I couldn't help but at the YouTube comments. One said "The man's build quality is awesome" and another said "The man can be hired as a dummy for NCAP testing"

That person shattered rear glass of Creta with his jaw. Is Creta's rear glass so fragile? We have seen people die in burning car because they couldn't break glass and get out. And, here, we see this.
