re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

India’s traffic violation problem can’t be solved by employing highway patrol etc. It just doesn’t scale for India’s size.

Needs deploying technology at scale unprecedented anywhere in the world. Just like how India just skipped past pesky landlines to mobile phones, manually employing patrols to catch and penalising traffic violations need to be skipped directly to enforcement by technology tools. Pretty sure it can be funded considering how much GDP we are losing because of lost human capital on roads.

All violations cannot be enforced by tech but most prevalent (speed, wrong way driving and parking violations for e.g.) can be and can bring down death and injury rates.

I have been to this place, there is a cafe on the ground floor of the hotel, exactly where the truck is parked, it would've been a fatal accident if happened during peak hours of a weekend. The building is on the lower side of a steep curve and its foundation is one level below the surface of the road, hence it was standing on pillars.

This happened near Telicherry, Kerala. No other details known. looks like car was driven by a lady, rescued by the locals through the rear door.
Shows how easily a car can flip over once it climbs over an object of reasonable height.
If it had not hit that stone (?) there was every chance it would have gone into the shop!

Although the cement or stone like structure did guard the nearby properties from the advancing car, I feel some kind of paint or reflective sticker should be put in place. It looked like a mere bush or vegetation and might be used by vehicles as a last moment resort in case of going over the shoulder.

I would like to differ here gentlemen, if you watch closely, the car was being driven towards the road at the time of impact.

Looks more like a distracted driving -> Corrective action, and the collision happened during the course of corrective action.

Had it just been bush, probably a crash never happened. On a single carriageway, having the bush or the structure there, in itself is a huge risk for motorists, we car drivers frequently go off the road (On the shoulders) to save our lives from the rogue bus and truck drivers. Isn't it?

The following images clearly show that the car has been changing its course in which seems to be quite decent a steering input too from the driver's side, for the speed the car is traveling at:

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

But why is he driving on the edge of the road when there is no traffic, no overtake manoeuvre observed? Is this a driving behaviour common in hilly region or what? And the way he was on the edge was really close. Also when he can see the bush clearly why risk running over the bush? I am completely lost here. Anyone from KL can you explain this scenario to me?

My guess is that the driver was trying to execute a wide, zero-braking turn into the road that is going away to the right from the main road (you can see it turning off just beyond the zebra crossing, an auto is parked in that road).

Otherwise, looking at Gmaps - the road is dead straight for about 100m at this place and the accident location is almost exactly at its mid-point.

Also, note carefully the 2wheeler guy who some how goes off a lil non-nonchalantly. He is careful to get the flying debris on his face, which would have probably had disastrous consequences

I feel that if we do an analysis of the number of accidents where someone under the age of 25 was involved driving the vehicle, it may be a compelling case to increase the age requirements for a vehicle driver license.

How can increase in age limit help if these guys don't care to get a licence before starting to drive.

RARE to see the airbag deployed for a car scrapping under a truck and its frontal crash sensor deploying the airbags!! The front bumper looks ok and the impact is only from top down, many cars in this thread havent deployed for similar accidents. So is TATA really making Indian-Street-Smart cars?
