As per reports, The truck driver too succumbed to his injuries.

Life is really very unpredictable .. just thinking about me and family, we were also planning to take the same route today in an i10..

Horrifying and so unfortunate to have become victims due to the negligence of others.

It seems that the truck was driving on neutral ( to save diesel) and the brakes were not applied in proper time.

If that was the case then brakes may not work if applied at last minute. Engine brake plays an important role while driving downhill.

Such a tragedy and very disturbing to look at a car being crushed like that.

Not sure what the right version is, but seems like the truck that impacted the i10, could have been hit from behind by a container.

The accident occurred at Borghat in the Raigad district when a trailer driver going towards Mumbai lost control of his vehicle and hit a truck that rammed into Chettiar’s car.

Nothing to that effect from what I could gather - just a local jurno struggling with words to report on a case and elicit collective head-nodding from the viewers with “tsk!tsk! Sad comments…”.

The earlier video clearly shows negligence from the truck driver - just rammed into the traffic at a speed he had no business to be in..

Indian scenario is much different. At least half the car drivers would be lynched to death by the angry mob that forms after every accident - at that point it doesn't matter whose fault it was (and even if it was the driver, mob justice is not the answer). I had an unfortunate situation in Dehradoon, Uttrakhand a few years back. While driving very slowly and super carefully trough a busy market where Google directed me, suddenly I heard a scream of a girl and slammed the brakes. My car stopped instantly as I was crawling fearfully and carefully at less than 20kmph. When I looked outside the window, I saw a young girl under the car. It was strange as I had no memory of having hit anyone but somehow it seemed that I had run her over. Being a busy market, dozens of people surrounded the car and started shouting. Some said move forward while others banged the bonnet shouting move back! I didn’t want to make a wrong move as I would run over the girl again. I was petrified that I had seriously injured her by running her over as my tyre seemed to be over her body. Her whole body was under the car.

Finally the consensus was to move back which I did. I was glad to see the young girl sort of get up which meant that at least she wasn’t mortally wounded. I was nervous due to the factors mentioned in your post. It was my first accident in India and my car was from Delhi in a different state. Fortunately, everyone was super nice and helpful. The local people as well as shopkeepers offered me refreshment and sympathy. They asked me to take the girl to a doctor. They called a few numbers and found a hospital. We put the girl and her female relative in the back seat and navigated to the hospital. Her family arrived and strangely none of them was angry at me at all. They were very nice and humble people. In the interim I called a friend who is a senior police official. He advised me to get them to sign an agreement if I make any payment. He offered to get my car released if it were to be confiscated by the police.

To cut the long story short, the girl was around 20 and had suffered a minor hairline fracture in her ankle. The resident doctor took an X-ray and declared that there was no major fracture and simply needed a cast and the charge would be around Rs 1500. However the owner of the small hospital arrived and invented a story that the girl was young and thus could suffer a limp for the rest of her life if some specialised surgery was not performed which would cost around 36k. I was in a dilemma as I couldn’t tell these poor people that their daughter was not worth spending 36k on even though it was obviously not necessary. So I decided to go along with it. They also realised this and decided to keep the money and get treated elsewhere. The hospital owner demanded that the money be paid in advance to the hospital but the injured folks asked that it be paid to them. One of the relatives was a policeman and he went with me to an ATM to withdraw the money. He wrote an agreement that we signed and we left. I figured it was compensation for the girl missing a month of work. Since we had a relatively expensive large car, A VW Jetta, it was assumed by them that we were rich.

Till today, I haven’t figured out how the girl’s ankle came under my tyre without my bumper having hit her. My theory is that she collided with her friend while walking and this pushed her towards my car after the front tyre had passed them and her foot came under the rear tyre. That is probably the reason they never shouted at me for hitting her. I am always very cautious with pedestrians and give them a wide berth because of my extensive driving experience in the US. This was a shocking incident but fortunately there was no nob justice.

Having a DashCam would have really helped in tis situation.
Once, a Taxi guy TBoned my car and the moment I had shown him that there is DashCam seeing all this, he relented.

Horrific!!! I doubt if any car in this segment or one higher would have fared better in such crash.

And I am trying to search for full width RUPD on the truck, but it seems missing.

This is exactly the scenario that I feared while I made the below post on another thread.

Seems like the front passengers in the Dzire are the ones who passed away while their wives in the rear survived with injuries. The tanker trailer driver is also amongst the ones injured. Nothing is certain on our roads. One can evade other motorists and drive safely, but things falling from above ?

The beam reportedly came crashing on a car and a lorry, when both the vehicles were heading towards Visakhapatnam city limits. Two persons who were sitting in front seats of the car died, while their wives who were sitting on the back seat received injuries. Among the injured, one woman is said to be pregnant, according to the district police. The driver of the lorry was also injured in the accident.

Sounds crazy if it was.

There was a bridge collapse caused by an accident on a British motorway a decade or so ago (M25 I think). Of course, other motorists were heading towards it fast. Amazing story was an elderly guy, lifelong biker, who was hurtling towards falling concrete beams, and threw himself off the bike. There was room to roll under, and he did. And lived to tell the tale. But building overhead? Crazy.
