re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Although I've seen videos of cars' uncontrolled skidding in ice, this incident is a result of uncontrolled driving in ice.
You'll first notice at 00:15, the LCV turning around at the bend and stopping the skid in time, and after that the incident involving a Swift Dzire

There seems to be a slight protrusion in the curb. The driver seems to have missed that or was distracted, and drove over it. Checked multiple times, but couldn't see any other reason why it ended the way it did.

That was the first thing I too noticed. Somehow the driver's subconscious did not notice this.

Doesn't it look a bit 'unreal'?
Unreal in that, hitting something like that causing the car to overturn. Is it really expected?
Would a sedan have behaved the same way?

It hit the post first, unbalancing the momentum and the elevated curb did the rest.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

The car with four occupants dashed against a tractor's trailer that was moving in the same direction on the Pune-Baramati highway on Tuesday 18/01 night. The car occupants were returning from Pune. The report says that the tractor driver had the tail light on and was displaying a red cloth. Three car occupants died including its driver, the driver's mother and aunt. One occupant was seriously injured. The driver was perhaps unable to spot the tractor moving at a slower speed.

Pardon the poor diagram drawn on mobile, but it conveys the simple physics involved.

Since the 'F', is in turn, a function of 'W' itself ; turns out that toppling/not can be crudely approximated to be some lower limit number for the cos(theta) resulting from the C.o.G and the track width dimensions of a car.

h/t is a high number for nexon => it's cos(theta) is very low => topples easily.

There was no vehicle from the opposite lane forcing the car to go to the extreme left of its lane. If it had been a tad slower, it probably would not have toppled.

That particular stretch of road from Morgaon to Baramati is done last year and it's excellent road, though any road markings. It's easy to speed up on that road, and difficult to guess turns, specially at night. Though report states the tractor driver had the tail light on and the reflective cloth was there, often these trolleys are so overloaded with sugarcane, it's difficult to spot those on the trolley. May the departed souls rest in peace.

Nothing unreal, and it can happen to any vehicle.
I myself had gone over a fallen tailgate and overturned in my VW Polo, speed was a shade above 60 as I was following a truck whose driver was not going above that even on a totally empty road. Insurance inspection found a broken tie-rod, and the chain used to secure the tailgate wound round the rear LH wheel.

Hyundai Venue caught fire after head-on collision with a truck in Assam's Kaliabor. It is reported that overtaking went wrong. Venue was carrying a marriage party with 7 persons. Not sure if extra passengers impacted performance. Driver is dead and six others are injured.

How can 7 persons fit in a Venue? Where there 3-4 kids? Such overloading is bound to result in injuries for all occupants regardless of the capabilities of the car. Even a minor accident can result into people inside getting injured.
