Good catch that. Isn't it an unwritten rule to have a four-horn setup once you are a politico? And the blaring horn of escort vehicles for ministers is even worse. One honk is enough to make your heart skip a beat and on top of that, you see flailing arms outside that car while looking in the rearview mirror and you have a good horror story!!!

Excellent observation.

But knowing that it is a ruling party politician, MVD will look another way and say only air horns are banned or will give some stupid explanation.

Really amazed that no one(Media houses) is talking of the careless attitude of the MP to have caused such a wreck, in the morning hours. Also judging by the condition of the vehicle plus the difficulty in removing the MP from the car, we can gauge that the car was driven at a considerable pace.

He was decent enough to keep it inside. There are many driving around with it placed on the bumper. Reminds me of those Aux lights on rally cars .

Inside or outside, it is the most annoying type of horn and is mainly these 'VIP' cars that have it. It is used to push the cars out of the way, with sound waves. Quite famous with TN party vehicles.

I learnt my lessons in a rather hard way. I was doing 70-80kmph on the Kokapet main road and a lady suddenly started to cross the road. There was a Fortuner in front of me and I saw the lady only after she crossed the Fortuner. I slammed on the brakes and steered to the right. My Beat hit the divider and toppled to the right side. After the car came to rest I took out the seatbelt, switched off the ignition and came out via the front left door. I walked away unscathed, with negligible bruises on my right and left hands. The car was pushed back and we moved away within 5-10 mins and cleared the spot. No one was hurt. My buddies called a towing vehicle and the car was towed to our trusty garage.


Lessons I learnt were:

Always, always wear a seatbelt. I would have been in the ICU if I wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

Do not overspeed. Follow speed limits at all times.

Buy a strong and safe car. Safety ratings do matter is what I felt after my incident. Things would've been different if I was in a Hyundai-Kia or a Maruti.

Chevrolet Beat is a strong goddamn car. No denying this fact.

Repair cost has been estimated to be around 40-50k. We will mostly claim insurance. A pillar is still intact as per my mechanic, so we proceeded to go ahead. Thoughts on this will be appreciated.

Damage to car:

Right front window cracked and lost
Front bumper totally damaged
A pillar damage
Front right door damage
Right ORVM broken
Radiator damaged
Right front door damaged
Right rear door damaged

In today's newspaper here in Jaipur I saw a news about an accident happened in Ajmer.

Speeding Innova with 14 people hit a pole due to damaged road, one 16 year old boy died.

No one questioned about "Speeding Innova" or "14 people in Innova" But the road was culprit!
When will we start questioning ourselves for our own safety? Why not follow responsible and defensive driving?

Or is it easier to blame others!

Midnight accident between bus and an ‘aeroplane’ at Trivandrum

A trailer carrying scrapped parts of a dismantled aeroplane met with an accident at midnight. KSRTC bus hit the protruding wing parts of the scrap piece, potentially due to the abnormal sized cargo parked on the road and minimal visibility.
5 people were injured, although the injuries are reported to be minor.

Four trailers carrying the scrap parts of a deconstructed aircraft were en route to Hyderabad when the accident occurred.

Very soon KSRTC will run short of buses as you see them getting involved in an accident every other day. They seem to be on receiving end for a quite a lot incidents in the recent past. Most of the Scania buses are in garage. Half of the SWIFT series have met with accidents by now. The remaining of the ordinary ones either go off the road or something comes and hits them.

And now this sounds very funny. How could you not see such an extra large load. If visibility is low, you go slow.

Considering the fate of KSRTC's these days, if it had not hit the aeroplane, the aeroplane would have hit it.

You are absolutely right, and there is no excuse for not slowing down for fog, rain, darkness.

Ultimately we usually have to blame the driver, but... I bet that protruding parts of that load were not lit properly. If it was truly invisible, and speed was reasonable, I'd say that this is a case where it was not entirely his fault. Seeing the pics, it seems miraculous that he is alive now, and that there were no fatalities.

No sir, it happened in Kerala where only so much invisibility can occur unless it is a hill station, which it was not. Though the reports sounds like one of those Yamuna Expressway pile up during fogs.
