The 10-year-old son of a senior police officer was killed on Tuesday after being hit by a car while he was skating near Janeshwar Mishra park here, police said.

Later in the day, two persons were arrested by the police, and the SUV, which had allegedly hit the child, was also recovered, they said.

It's a sad accident. However, the first question came to my mind, was the kid skating on public road ? If yes, then who's really at fault here ?

My kid used to skate and we made sure that he's skating in the dedicated ring or the lanes in park; never ever on roads even within society let apart public roads. Also, we bought proper helmet, elbow, arm and knee braces. Still he got few occasional scrapes.

If the SUV driver didn't deliberately hit the child, then the driver could only be charged with hit and run. I am not trying to undermine the big loss and grief of the family; but considering the impacted party is police family, all legal hell will fall upon the accused.

This is horrific and heartbreaking, an accident that would not have occurred even if one of the drivers were careful enough!

The lorry did not slow down even though it was approaching a junction and the autodriver seemed to have a death wish', neither worrying for his life nor for those children's

Accidents like these might make the parents rethink about their kids safety in those precarious 7 seater autos, but alas , it just gradually fades away from our memory, like the safety of the child!

It appears to be below the Telugu Thalli Flyover near Divisional Railway Manager Office, in the central part of the city in the early hours.

These 7 seater autos are generally driven by young adults , who might not even possess a driving licence and display all antics on the road.

Luck ,as usual, played a huge part in this. The car did not strike the body of the neel gaaye, but just the head and torso, where not much of the mass is concentrated and is very malleable. Fatalities were near certain if the Creta had hit the animal near the beefiest part of it's torso.

All the mess happens just where the continuous white line is marked, which usually is marked for some obvious reasons. But none of them cared about it.

Its scary to see that such driving is becoming a growing trend on the narrow roads in the hilly regions all over India. There was time when drivers in the hilly regions used to stick in their lanes, doesn't matter if its continuous line, dashed-lines or no marked lines at all.

Can't really make out the speed or whether climbing/descending from video, but watching the footage over again, the main culprit is the 12-wheeler truck driver who was overtaking another 12-wheeler truck on a blind curve. The bus driver went to the opposite lane to save a head on collision. At 00:30, the bus was in its lane, turning and honking, then he sees the inevitable collision.

I don't think truck drivers are so foolish to overtake another truck on a curve like that.

The main reason for this accident is the stationary truck parked behind the curve, which forced the other truck (and the bike rider) to overtake with continuous honking. The bus was too fast and could not respond to the honks and this happened. I dont know why the truck was parked, but I could not see it move in the video. The driver's seat appear vacant at the time of the accident.
A moving truck driver, cannot leave the steering so quickly, he will be glued to the brakes if he see someone heading his way. The truck rolled back with ease.

Actually the bus driver perhaps did a very good job in passing between two head on collision possibilities. At least from the video there is minimal damage given the severity of situation. Bus driver was driving in his lane, cant comment on speed but the blunder was made by the oncoming truck driver in the wrong lane. Ironically, he was completely spared and everyone else including the biker bore the brunt.

There is also a biker involved in this accident. You can see him right behind the truck in the wrong lane, probably goes under as the bus continues to roll forward after the initial collision.

A ghastly accident on NH 44 on the outskirts of Nagpur City killed a teenager also injuring his friend who was a co-rider on an Activa. They were returning from their institute at 2.00 pm when this happened. It was a case of rear hit by the AMW truck seen in the image attached with the newsclipping. A budding life has been sadly lost. He was the only son of his parents.

Rear hits by recklessly driven vehicles can be avoided if enough space is available between the road divider and our car/two wheeler. The reckless and negligent drivers demand right of way to bulldoze through traffic at all times. Hence, if we are moving at slower speeds, it's better to leave the required wide gap for these devils to play their antics and move ahead.

Nowadays I also feel that there is something wrong with the size of heavy commercial vehicles. We have outlandishly long and tall luxury/sleeper buses which are just not meant for roads other than flat expressways. Same goes for trucks. There has to be some regulation on what kind of vehicles are allowed to ply on certain roads. I dont think most of our state highway ghat sections are capable of allowing passage of such outsize vehicles safely in both directions.

Update -
As per Visakhapatnam Reditt page all children who were injured are now safe. One girl was critical but her brain surgery was a success. This is good news.

I agree with you on this. The parked truck was the 1st culprit and the second was the speed of the bus. Although the driver did do his best to avoid a larger accident, honking and driving slowly could have saved everyone.

The pressure at work on the blue-collar employees is so much at times, that they cannot speak up and they just try to succumb to the pressure. I have seen Volvo buses being driven at 130kmph between E City and Hosur, just to make up for the time lost at Silk Board/Bangalore traffic.

The cries of people in the video bring shivers to anyone who watches it.
