Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Absolutely avoidable.

As many have written, there is no regards whatsoever for road markings by drivers in India & KSRTC drivers in particular.

Strict punishment of licence cancellation, steep hike in re application for licence & still difficult, strict process of licence issuing may be answer to curbing the tendency.

Though corruption is biggest obstacle in implementing it successfully.

However IMO India proudly says,we are leaders in use of digital financial transactions.

Why similar digital revolution cannot be used for enforcing discipline in drivers automatically as far as license revoking &re issuing matters using cameras, all India vehicle database like they do in issuing online tickets for braking traffic rules.

Fear of driving wrongly and its consequences is not there at all in India.

Absolutely right - so many things wrong here - however it seems to be the normal thing at this place as you can see almost everybody is walking on the road casually.

It is evident that the bus driver did not spot the lady - the fully covered black/dark clothing could have also contributed in the dark conditions.

The bus driver would have been occupied by watching out for possible hazards from all directions and missed to notice this lady, could have been blinded by oncoming high beams too.

Of course the bus driver cannot do a 360 degree scanning which seems to be required at this intersection (at least from the CCTV angle) and the casual attitude of the pedestrians.

Add to that, illogical diversions during construction of flyover, metro etc and traffic route diversions by local police/administration.

Last week, I was driving in a city called Namakkal in TN and the traffic diversions within city are crazy. Top of that, bikers use any lane, come from any direction. Pedestrians jump from signal, barricades. This is both a design and attitude problem.

Buses in Kerala, Private/ Government, give scant regard to safe driving. One of my dashcam footages from last year

1. The airbags of Vitara did not open up in accident although the occupants were buckled up. I understand that vehicle was hit from left but shouldn't the airbags be deployed when vehicle fell in ditch? We have mailed Maruti regarding this but no reply received till now.
Most probably the front impact crash sensor is placed below the vacuum booster or to avoid water damage it may be moved below the gear shifter inside the console.

Send a followup email to Maruti and ask the above query, I am really curious to see their response.

If this cannot open the airbag then I would vote for Option-B - below the gear shifter!

Could it be that the frontal impact was secondary, will that be the reason for the non deployment of the airbags.

Impact sensor is not placed in the location that you have mentioned. In fact, in the picture you can clearly see the impact sensor on the right fender/apron area with a bright yellow wire/connector.

The module that is usually present in the center console under the gear lever area is the Airbag module, basically the ECU for handling airbag deployment and not the impact sensors.

A BMW and Mercedes racing with each other ended up crashing into an app based aggregator's WagonR on the Bandra Worli Sealink on Sunday.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Not sure if it is posted here, on the last Friday night (Friday the 13th) when it rained heavily in NCR, a XUV700 got struck (well submerged) in underpass near Old Faridabad Railway Station & the driver & passenger (both HDFC bank employees) died as they could not come out/ be pulled out timely & the car got locked. The driver who was also my brother's colleague was dropping off the passenger who lived in Faridabad. My brother's entire Saturday was spent on getting the bodies from local government hospital (he is amongst senior-most staff in the city).

Om Shanti !!!

There is no maintenance of these underpasses in Faridabad. As this one is used by me frequently, I can say that I have never seen any authority cleaning it at any time, leave alone de-silting before rains. It is one of the dirtiest underpass with no lighting inside, broken drain covers and broken footpath along with encroachment on approach and no traffic regulation. I always wonder how the authorities just don’t care about it at all even though it is one of the major thoroughfares to connect parts of city on either side of railway line. Even without rains, it is a risky place to travel.

The moment it even drizzles, people of city don’t take this underpass or any of the other underpasses and instead use Badkhal or Neelam flyovers as these underpasses are sure to be filled with water. I read in one of the news articles that Police claimed that they had put in barricades and they had warned them not to take this underpass but the deceased still went ahead. Though I would take anything Police say with a bucket of salt, I have been wondering why they took this road when it was pouring that night as this underpass was expected to be submerged and as they were coming from Gurgaon, the flyovers named above should have been taken by them to reach Greater Faridabad.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Got this video in whatsapp, accident on golf course road Gurgaon, biker was hit by a car driving on the wrong side. It was mentioned that the biker died(not sure though). Looks like biker was speeding little bit but he doesn't deserve this.

I am speechless. What are these folks smoking ? Seriously, I have no idea what makes people do these stunts ? Forget about considerations for others (I have no expectations from their ethical side), do they not have any self preservation instincts ? What if, instead of the bike it was a fortuner (or worse) a truck (we all know they like hugging the divider) ? Even a Norway lemming has more self preservation instincts than these fools.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Wrong side driving has really become a total menace in NCR and I dare say most of north India. Situation has totally gone out of hands and if urgent and desperate measures are not taken quickly, we will see such tragic loss of lives more often.

I once saw a video where Nitin Gadkari joking said that he wishes to bring a law where ordinary citizens can simply record such traffic violations, upload on a centralised portal and get rewarded. Wrong side driving is a perfect pilot case to try out this possibly win-win solution.
