It's an MG Hector, with a panoramic sunroof. The occupants managed to exit the car safely before it went up fully in flames. Seems the intense heat caused the brakes' contact surfaces to give away, and the gradient rolled the car down.

There was a near stampede of the spectators, lucky that no one tripped, although one bike had to be abandoned in the melee and it just missed getting stuck with the runaway.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Hello members,
Yesterday I just narrowly avoided a huge crash which could’ve been fatal for me as well. I was travelling from Kushalnagar to Bangalore on 13/10/24 & was on Bangalore Mysore Expressway. It was raining very heavily & for about 30 minutes had to stop the car after taking an exit from the highway due to poor visibility as well. Also the main problem on this Highway as I’ve told many people as well is waterlogging on this highway especially near the divider & also the lack of people’s knowledge on how fast to go over these roads.

Coming to the incident, after the rain subsided I started towards Bangalore & was driving around 60kmph in the middle lane as I was passing a truck on the right most side of the lane. While passing the truck all of a sudden from the opposite side of the highway a Suzuki Baleno flipped from the opposite lane & it was almost about 10ft in the air, I literally froze for a second & by the time I could the car flipped & landed on the left most lane and it again rolled over and a TATA Nexon crashed into it. All of this happened in about 3 seconds and since i was in the middle lane I somehow braked and dodged with a single scratch. The crash happened about 6ft in front of me & I cleared out of the middle lane as I was sure that someone would ram me from behind but thank god nothing happened. The crash took place about 6ft in front of me & unfortunately the nexon driver couldn’t react immediately.

My guess is that the Baleno driver went over a puddle at a higher speed & lot control and hit the divider which caused the car to launch in the air & crash. The sad part was inside the nexon were 2 infants I think who was sitting on drivers lap & due to the airbag deployment, the infant was bleeding also there was another infant on passenger's lap. Have attached a video below captured by co-passenger & it is shaky. Also I dont have any dashcam in my car.

Have to say a bit of luck or blessings along with presence of mind saved me and my passengers out of danger. Also due to the shock after this I had a terrible ache in stomach.

I think it's a VW Polo and not a Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

A lot of fortunate and unfortunate people in that incident, glad you're safe with no harm done to anyone and minimal damage to the car.

The crashed car could've easily landed upside down on another day, or worse, flipped over the railing separating the service road and hurt/killed someone waiting there for the rain to pass. They're also fortunate they flipped clear of the truck you were overtaking, and not into it.

The Nexon occupants are unfortunate to be where they were at the time, but also absolutely irresponsible, driving with unsecured passengers (including 2 little kids). One can only hope the kids in the Nexon have no lasting damage from their injuries, and that the parents learn a safety lesson from it.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Update:- I found another video of the accident on YouTube & we can see the damages as well.
Also just noticed the car which came from the opposite direction is a VW Polo.

A speeding biker collides with a vehicle and erupts in a ball of fire. The intensity and the suddenness of the fire speaks volumes about the speed of the biker and the intense collision that must have occurred. These rash-riders are a menace on the roads. Video stated to be from Cooch Behar, West Bengal.

When will people realize the importance of car seat and stop carrying kids on lap

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/road-...ml#post5851558 (2 year old sitting on the front seat dies due to airbag deployment)

Hope the concept of Seat belts & child seats goes into the Nexon owner now.

Get one or use any old android cam at home as a dash cam with free apps.

Thats a first, I used to hear and also have been a victim once of a severe back pain and you can feel adrenalin pumping out from top of Kidneys, I went limp after a scary on-road encounter in Bangalore.

Take care friend!

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Hope people realise that buying a 5-star car isn't enough. Kids need to be at the backseat and all passengers belted.
Hope the kids will recover from the injury soon.

Glad that you are safe.

Vehicles jumping the median won't give us enough reaction time as it depends on how close we are to its path. Get a dashcam as using phone might not be safe while driving.

Why do vehicles in India jump median, as I have heard a number of times about it. Is it unskilled drivers combined with bad road design?

Also I see no rumble strips at the edge of the road (fast lane) and lane marking is very close the kerb leaving little room for correction.

Oh man, thank your stars. Had you got a dashcam we could have seen the entire event unfolding.

There is strict speed limit enforced on the road, inspite of that the vehicle loosing control and jumping over is ridiculous. What a bad luck for the Nexon. Hope the kids recover fast.

The last Sunday was crazy on that expressway. Probably this was the first of the series of accidents that happened later in the day. I drove through in the night and saw atleast 10 vehicles involved in accidents, all of them rear ending. The road also witnessed crazy traffic due to Dussehra vacation winding up.

High speeds, Losing control of car, tyre burst, Dozing off coupled with low medians and after that it's just physics.

Another factor: bald tyres. Most likely the cause of the below accident for example.
