I think apart from the bike rider, everyone else is at fault.

The daredevil lady on the scooter; you can see brain.exe trying desperately to load but failing with a 'file not found' error.

But seriously, this could have easily resulted in a casualty or worse down the chain, considering the number of buses and 2 wheelers in between them. It was just sheer absolute luck that nothing worse than some minor bruises and dents happened.

In other news,

A Tata trailer truck T-Boned into a Nexon.EV in Rajasthan apparently.

Since there is clear evidence of the scooter lady causing this entire mashup with her brain freeze, I suppose the insurance companies of all vehicles involved would descend upon her? What generally does happen in these cases?

The aftermath of these incidents never really make it to the news, so I don't know.

Technically, everyone who took damage (material or physical) in that incident out to claim recompense from her 3rd party coverage. Real world, given how much of a nightmare 3rd party claims are in India and nobody really got hurt, everyone will likely just curse and move on.

What ought to happen, is on top of the offending party's 3rd party insurance paying out damages, the offending party ought to be booked for negligent driving. That no major damage or injuries occurred due to her negligence was no thanks to her.

People like this often getting away with just a shrug and some fruity language is how this menace exists to begin with.

Ideally, her insurance third party is liable to pay for the damage (If proven). And subsequent insurance premiums will be affected.

As you said, with such proofs available, even MVD should proactively take actions.

The expression on that lady's face!

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

While the description of the incident can definitely mention whether it was a male or a female who was involved, I find it very inaccurate to stereotype and lump the problem on all "lady drivers".

Being a male myself, I have no hesitation in saying that the number of male morons on the roads far exceed the number of female morons on the roads. Every day on my daily commute, I see an assortment of terrible male drivers - including but not limited to incompetent, stupid or unruly. Our gender is not only more often at fault, they're also shameless and aggressive about brazenly flouting road norms.

Somehow, society is quick to reinforce gender stereotypes when a female falters, compared to a male - it gathers far more attention than a male behaving like an imbecile.

Another example of this: just the other day, I saw a viral video about a mother and her daughter shouting loud unrepeatable expletives at a gentleman over a parking issue, for which they were seemingly at fault themselves. It became national news. While their behavior is utterly despicable, I found it a little skewed that the particular expletives they were shouting are shouted all over India by males in traffic snarls every other day - but somehow though it is equally despicable, it doesn't make it to national news when said by a male.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Much as stereotypes make for a good giggle or a barrage of fruity language, bad driving is down to bad training and bad hardware between the ears, not below the belt. Observe bad driving on the road for one whole day, and you'll find far more men are horrible drivers than women. Gender? No. There just are more men driving than women, ergo more bad men drivers than women.

My sister is as good (or bad) a driver as I am. Nothing to do with what we got below our belts, everything to do with how we were taught to drive and our temperament when behind the wheel. We both went to driving school together when we turned legal driving age, and she's still one of the few people I'd trust with my life on the road.

P.S. You think cursing a bad woman driver is risky? Try cursing a guy.

My meant to these kind of lady drivers was for those who are not confident in driving or learning driving/riding. And for both males and females. I apologise here

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

I agree that stupidity has no gender.

We have more men driving on the road, so we see more male bad drivers.

It's like the 'Indians are smarter' fallacy. We have more smart Indians just because there are more Indians in the first place.

With increasingly more vehicles on the road, it's statistically more possible to see instances of rash driving at a more frequent rate.

Then again, what do I know. I suck at maths.

Thank you for mentioning that. I have made similar comments in the past, but now, I find myself needing to be reminded. So thanks!

Actually, when I first started to see female two-wheelers becoming common on the roads, I greeted it with a different stereotype: Surely, their essential female good sense, and, if with children, their maternal instinct would ensure that they rode better and safer than the guys?

Wrong... Wrong... Wrong!

I soon came to to see that they had been taught by brothers, uncles, etc, to ride the same way: just as badly.

Some of it comes from below the belt. The testosterone-fuelled rash, risk taking and thrill seeking stunts. And that is more of a male thing.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

These bus drivers spent their life driving through crowded and narrow roads at breakneck speeds and/or tailgating the traffic ahead with wafer thin margins; all this with their foot resting on the brakes! Else I can imagine the damage such an incident would have caused.

Bad habits are democratic!

I'd hoped more women on the roads will bump up the average sanity levels, but it keeps getting worse.

I had a lady barge across my car in the afternoon on a busy road near a school. Helmet unstrapped and a kid asleep on her lap, while stood in the footwell of the scooter!

Barely 100 meters ahead, an idiot gentleman (oxymoron, but a real moron too), with a toddler asleep on his shoulder and riding one handed (sunglasses, no helmet). Likely going to pick another up from school.

These are the people ferrying little kids to school and back everyday. Lord help us
