Absolutely agreed, smartphones are making people dumb and distracted. In this incident, even if father was not on phone he didn't have a chance to stop the kid who unfortunately skidded and hence came under wheels. Had the kid been upright he would have simply banged on the moving car or would have had car running over his feet.

In this scenario there was nothing much anyone could have done. That property can review the way opening to children play area is designed, it's right in path of incoming vehicles.

It's the Scooter lady's fault. She shouldn't have moved to the right most lane straight away. Lucky it was a two wheeler behind her, what if it was a truck/bus?The whole narrative changes. Hope the kid is ok.

Wonder what really could have happened here? Novice driver, Car malfunction or something else? What feature are they referring to here?

Lack of space and proper urban planning is absolutely an issue in India, but we also need to look in the mirror.

My apartment building has a dedicated safe play area cordoned off from the driveways. Not the token kind a lot of apartments have, no sir. Proper large area with tennis, badminton and basketball courts for teens & grown ups, slides, swings and other stuff for smaller kids, plus separate adult & kids swimming pools. In addition, there's a public park with a play area and walking/jogging path less than 50 meters from the apartment gates.

Yet, most parents just sit around on their phones and let their kids play unsupervised in the parking lots and driveways in the evenings. Recently, a kid got hurt by a moving vehicle and the parent was so obliviously lost in their phone, it took a call from security for them to realise their kid was hurt.

Guess what happened next? The parent throwing a hissy fit about 'irresponsible people hurting kids'.

If I were the owner of the white car, I’d be a bit (or a lot) angry for the 2-wheeler striking it when its rider ran towards the road. I understand he ran for a noble cause, but just being honest here on what I’d have felt about the damage done to my car.

If I were the owner of the red car, I’d be profusely thanking my stars for having avoided the crash with the Windsor in that narrow lane!

Crazy luck for the red car!

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Happened near Barnala, Punjab, a small car which appears to be the Ford Fusion, hits a first generation Fortuner from behind, turning it turtle, and hitting a Scorpio classic in the opposite lane, great save by the Thar driver in the opposite lane, heard that no one suffered any serious injuries. Kudos to the Ford build quality, the cabin of the Fusion appears to be totally unaffected, even after such an impact, although the Fusion driver seems to be at fault, appears to be racing with the Swift, which overtakes the Fortuner, or may be distracted.

Witnessed this somewhere in Eastern Uttar Pradesh on our way to West Bengal.

Luckily the bikers were able to walk/drive away after some efforts to bring the bike up the slope.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Feels like it’s almost impossible to do a drive between Mumbai and Pune without seeing something like this. Caught this on the JNPT section while driving from Atal Setu to the expressway - literally a short while ago.

Earlier on Atal Setu, not an accident but I had seen a car parked in the right lane with an elderly couple - seemed to have stopped on account of a tyre burst. Luckily all the support crew etc had reached the spot and they seemed to be with some mechanics / rescue crew.

On my drive to West Bengal from Himachal Pradesh, I also noticed this trend in many highways, people with tyre bursts or punctures in the right most lane, with their boots open, stepneys out, luggage spread all around the car, and occupants standing helping out in tyre replacement.

Such a dangerous trend, why don't these people just drive towards the shoulder and do all these things? Why is common sense lacking from our urgent generation of road users?

Thankfully no damage done to my Tata Aria! Don't know why he couldn't stop on time, it was a slow railway crossing...

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Very sad to see this on my feed today - An auto-rickshaw crushed between two BMTC buses, killing both the auto driver and a passenger.

First bus slowed down because a car was reversing in front of it. An auto-rickshaw behind the bus also reduced its speed but a second bus following closely behind could not stop in time, crashing into the auto-rickshaw. Very unfortunate incident.

But the bus doesn't even seem like it was going that fast. Also, I can see the brakes being applied twice and then let go of?

A distracted bus driver, probably?
