The sunroof affects a car’s overall structural integrity, which is why, in this incident, the pillars are severely damaged but remain intact, while the entire roof has been ripped apart.

Also, I’m not sure if the rear passengers not wearing seatbelts can prevent the curtain airbags from deploying.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

You can blame intoxication inexperience and signage all you want but at the end of the day this dirty habit of reversing on a main road that too a highway, ought to be curbed and authorities simply aren’t doing enough about that. It is so sad to see that in a metro city, whenever I go out I always find one idiot reversing on or coming the wrong way on or under a flyover.

I don't think that was the case here. I looked at the location in Google Maps; there is this sign:

Accidents in India | Pics & Videos-clipboard_03162025_01.jpg

Fall of 50m probably means that they were nearing, at or just beyond the point where the carriageways crossed over; trying to reverse from there is unpardonable. I could see a U-turn spot within 1.5km of the interchange towards Chandrapur/Hyderabad.

An update :- The Police Commissioner of Vadodara has transferred three ASI's for allowing the accused student Mr Chaurasia to speak to the media. From the newslink it is clear that the police and the judiciary have also taken up the matter seriously.

Quote:
A local court in Vadodara on Saturday extended by two days the police remand of Rakshit Chaurasia, a law student accused of killing one person and injuring seven others in a car accident on Thursday night. The extension was granted after the police informed the court that "several aspects" of the investigation in the case needed to be looked into. The court had earlier granted a one-day custody of the accused.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Vadodara Commissioner of Police transferred three ASI attached to the Karelibaug police station for violation of "standard investigation procedure" and allowing the accused to speak with external media.

In some cases, the roof is cut open by rescue teams to extricate occupants who may be stuck/unresponsive. So a roof that looks dramatically ripped apart might actually be an aftermath of such rescue efforts!

One more reason to drive Extra Carefully on our highways: the apathy and unhelpfulness of our fellow drivers.
In both cases described in the below article, drivers kept whizzing past rather than stopping to help.

Supremely uncomfortable to watch. To save someone else the trouble, the video isn’t gore but a pedestrian gets stuck on a spiked pillar so please view at your own discretion. Reports state it was a long standing feud between two families and somehow escalated to the driver trying to gravely injure the biker, the poor woman was just a bystander. News article.

India is really becoming a circus, especially with people getting vehicles which have more wheels than the owner has brain cells

It's not a circus. The truth is there is no fear of the law or the police. People know they can get away scot-free for any crime they commit and the police and laws are powerless to stop them. The above actions by the car driver are nothing short of a murder. I really wonder now, why is there so much intolerance in all the people nowadays in India? Sure, you can have a dispute with someone, but that doesn't give you a right to ram your vehicle into that person. It gave me goosebumps just to watch the poor lady strung upside down on the metal bars. I really hope that justice is served to her. Enough said!

This one from Bangalore,

Allegedly, the car driver seems to have stopped the car on the flyover abruptly to take a call from his wife, but he is playing the victim card and blaming the police for impounding his vehicle. He doesn't seems to understand that the he is not supposed to stop the car in the middle of the lane.

The car is in the left most lane and not in middle of the flyover. There can be multiple reasons for anyone to stop their car on a flyover without a designated bay due any kind of emergency. If you look at the video, it was not an abrupt halt but gradual one and even a few 2 wheelers overtook him without any problem. The scooterist just rams straight into the car and looks like he didn't notice the car. That's pretty strange considering it was daytime and the car was a big one in blue colour. The car person is being harassed for being too polite.

I don’t think there is any reason one should stop on a flyover. Could you please highlight reasons to stop on a flyover that are excusable? Infact the car driver seems to have begun slowing down at the mouth of the flyover itself so it is classic behaviour selfish behaviour that I will take the flyover and stop on it to take a call rather than go from below. Other people’s time be dammed. I don’t see how the car person is being polite at all.

There is no reason to stop on a flyover that is excusable. Although, there can be some instances which may warrant a stop, just to name a few -
  1. A tyre blowout.
  2. Sudden feeling of nervousness/ panic/ other medical emergency with the driver or passenger.
  3. An emergency call which demands more of your attention.
  4. Missing the correct way.

In this particular case, if you've read the post by the author, he says that his wife is 9 months pregnant and he had to stop as she had called and he thought it was an emergency. He did slow down and slowly got his car to the side instead of slamming the brakes. On the other hand, the scooterist just rammed into him inspite of having a good time to maneuver. The driver even took the person to hospital and then went to the police to report this issue. I may be wrong in interpreting all this.
