As I mentioned "reports say" car was driving at a very high speed. Actual speed cannot be determined unless a detailed forensic analysis is done.

Most modern cars have a device similar to an airplane's black box, called an Event Data Recorder (EDR). While not identical to an aircraft's black box, the EDR records important data about the vehicle's performance before, during, and after a crash. This data can be crucial for accident reconstruction, insurance claims, and legal proceedings.

In many countries abroad, if you crash your car with speed above the legal speed limit, there is a very high chance your insurance claim will be rejected.

Coming to this case, with Virtus considered once of the safest sedan available in the market today, and considering the damage and loss of lives, I am sure the car must be doing some serious high speed.

No car can save its occupants no matter the crash test rating can save its occupants if the driver drives it at over a 100 kmph into a presumably sharp divider.

I just found out, in the VW Virtus crash, the car was allegedly travelling at 192 kmph.

Which car is that? Both the Harrier and Nexon cruise controls can be set at 130 - 140 kmph. Done higher speeds for short runs, never set the cruise control higher.

How did they arrive at such a precise number?

There is a video doing rounds online in which a rear seat passenger is recording while the driver is speeding. The car is around Karthik Family Restaurant in Mangalore and reached a speed of 192 kmph before crashing. Apparently it’s the same car but I can’t confirm it because two videos are stitched together.

Did this car have rear seat passengers?

This reminds me of a quote I read in an article about personal risk assessment.

"If you make an activity safer, people push the limits of that activity to bring the risk back up to a level they find accessible."

Here's a reddit post with a video that shows that the car was being driven upwards of 180KMPH.

Absolutely no sympathy for such cops. They randomly park their vehicles on high speed roads / expressways. Many times just after you climb / get off a flyover you suddenly see a police vehicle parked right at the top / bottom which is a typical blind spot. At high speeds the chances of an accident are very high. These policemen randomly stand on the roads at night / hide behind bushes and jump in front of vehicles so they can collect bribes.

While what has happened is tragic and I pray they get well soon but the Faridabad and this accident both can be attributed to the policemen thinking they are above the laws of physics and standing in the middle of high speed roads. If they have to do "bandobast" duty then setup a barricade and then stand 100m after the barricade so even if someone doesn't notice / panic it only leads to minor damages and no risk to life

I'm sorry, but I feel this post is super incautious and extremely ignorant. I have ready 7-8 articles covering this issue, and all of them tell that the police personnel was doing their job correctly. No matter however you put it, the police was in the right. He was not standing in the middle of a road, nor in an uncomfortable place. He stood exactly where he was supposed to.

He never thought he was above the law. All he was doing was trying to do his job. I can't believe that one could be so ignorant to these facts and post pretty much anything, telling that they feel no sympathy. That girl who was driving is 100% in the wrong place, and what she did does not seem wrong to you, but the poor man doing his job seems vicious. Unbelievable.

Sorry if I sound harsh, but what you imply is utter naivety. You definitely should change your approach.

The articles I read mention that the accident occurred on an expressway. Are you allowed to stop on expressways? Also, 100 kph seems to well below the speed limit. Or is this one of those 80 kph zones?

Not trying to offend anyone but I feel like I am missing something. We blame trucks for stopping on regular National Highways. Couldn't the interceptor have played the role of the same trucks?

And, even if someone read a 100 articles, if the source for all of them is the police, what kind of opinion will they form? Especially since the accident occurred to a police vehicle.

His car was Harrier. At that point of time I was driving Zen and had not driven a car with cruise control and wanted to know his experience. He might be right or wrong with the CC not "working" at +120 speeds, that is not the main point. His reason for not using it is what is bugging me. Needless to say, ever since I never bother to take his driving opinions seriously.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Physics dictates that the kinetic energy of a moving object is proportional to the square of the velocity. Eg. A car at 120 KMPH carries 2.25x the energy vs. one traveling at 80 KMPH. A car at 160 KMPH carries 4x the energy vs one at 80 KMPH. Higher the relative energy vs a lower speed, much lesser the chance of survival and much higher the damage. Drive safe!

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Came across this video on Reddit, a BMW M5 crashed in Hyderabad.

TC definitely seems to be Off, since it looks like the owner wanted to perform drifts.

I really don't know why people try these things on public roads, in such populated areas like Hitech City.

The two bikers were saved by a small margin.

Related news article which has more details.

Since the Porsche incident in Pune, which happened just a few meters outside my home, it seemed like people would exercise better caution in the future.

Some people buy supercars for showoff and because of that, genuine car enthusiasts tend to receive flak, even when they're driving well within the limits of the law!

This was very unfortunate...never to be just behind or around a vehicle in reverse gear. Self explanatory, English newslinks given below.
