They surely must be driving at speeds north of 100kmph. In this stretch of road this is the fifth fatal accident within a year. After the 8 laning of the road between Nigdi & Dapodi (almost 16kms with no signal), this section of the road has become a death trap.

@ Bonecollector "Another case of drunken driving claiming lives.PLEASE NEVER MIX DRIVING AND DRINKING".

On similar lines when I travel on NH50, I come across this road sign --> DRINK AND DRIVE, AND YOU WON'T SURVIVE

There was an accident just before Kalena Agrahara on Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore today morning between 8-9 today morning. A biker lost his life in the accident. A truck seems to have been involved.

Onlookers and people slowing down for the accident created a jam there.

Sad to here that the biker lost his life. I saw a ambulance struggling to reach the accident spot and sensed something wrong has happened. I took a different route to avoid the traffic.

Not sure who caused the accident but due to heavy traffic on this road I have seen bikers taking even the smallest gap available to go forward. Even though its a two lane road people have made it a 4 lane road by using the road side creating more traffic.

Right. But even 30kmph on a busy road packed with autorickshaws, pedestrians, cyclists, school kids...etc is rash.

Maybe she was too fast for that traffic situation. Mostly people decide the speed based on road surface. Rip it if the surface is good....never mind the bustling traffic.

Bangalore residents might be familiar with IDIOTS speeding on Commercial Street. MORONS.

Diwali Dhamaka!!!

On Diwali, Instead of waking up to the sound of a firecracker, This is what my colleague woke up to.

If you see the pictures carefully, there are poles used for construction.
Those poles were stacked against the coconut tree. It was too much load for the old tree to handle.
It came crashing down on my colleague's 11year old Santro which was parked there.
The compound wall also collapsed with this, damaging the entire left side of the car .

If you see the picture 4, you can see that one more small tree also broke.
In picture 6, you'll see the broken coconut tree and the poles which were stacked against it.
Observe Picture 7, you'll see that a street lamp also has crashed down.

The Santro is the lone unlucky vehicle to be damaged but luckily no human suffered any damage.

The car has now got back to its shape after paying a bill of 60k...The insurance claim is made and the cheque is expected soon.

The building owner where the poles were stacked and resulted in this accident, has agreed to pay whatever is the difference between the Insurance claim amout and the actual repair cost.

What a way to celbrate Diwali

Apparently, the santro has a dented Hood and front fender. I guess the compound wall has taken most of the impact. Were there any damages internally? 60K for putting the car back in shape sounds little expensive.

You are right, the compound wall has reduced the impact. Internally there wasn't any huge damage as such.
Only the engine cover was damaged along with other small parts which were exactly under the area of impact.

The bumper, left fender, bonnet and left door was replaced.
Also the windshield developed a crack at one of the corners(not visible in this picture), which was replaced.
Dent on the rear door was removed and painted.

Its a Hyundai...60k doesn't look expensive to me looking at the amount of work done on the car.
Also the fender was not available anywhere for this old Santro, it was fabricated to order and that was the one part which delayed the repair and must have increased the cost IMO.

Oh that's quite a big list. Now 60K doesn't sound expensive. Just wanted to clarify because there is an extensive thread running elsewhere on the Hyundai's service being expensive. Thanks for the detailed post.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Saw this car (looks like a tuscon) parked in front of the Suzuki showroom in BTM layout main road on 11-11-11 evening.

Accidents in India | Pics & Videos-img_20111111_182310.jpg

I don't know what/when happened, but if we see the picture, looks like the car has hit some person.
The bumper has come off and it was placed nearby. The windsheild had a hole which looks like some person's head has hit that place.

I initially thought that some coconut wouldl've fallen on the windshield, but seein the damage to the bumper I felt otherwise.

Anyone have more info?

This picture appeared on the front page of DC Chennai edition today with the following write up.

A Kancheepuram (Tamil Nadu) resident stretches out on the side of the national highway, near Sriperumbudur, after sending an SOS. His car turned turtle after skidding on some loose mud, early on Sunday morning. While the car seems a wreck, the driver escaped with minor injuries – DC

LOL, Your signature reads like an accident
Though your ride's paint job indicates a repair job well done.

@Hemant.anand : What khoj meant was, that your car does not reflect the accident that your signature says.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Few pics of an alto that met with an accident near my home town in mid october this year. 4 people from a family (husband , wife, son , daughter) and a driver were travelling in that car.

The alto lost control, while overtaking a bus and hit a lorry. The lorry driver tried his best to avoid the head on collision but was unsuccessful. It is said that the specialist driver who was driving throughout the trip, was not driving when this mishap occured. All four of the family perished on the spot and the specialist driver succumbed to the injuries in the hospital.

Sad state, when will people ever realized that if your are in a smaller and a more venerable vehicle, you need to be really really careful. Even the most modern and sophisticated cars are no match for a truck in a head on collusion. Must have been a divider less stretch of road.
