re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Another life lost due to wrong side entry on the highway.

From the third pic it looks like the WagonR driver was looking to pass another vehicle which was in the middle lane (a bus or truck perhaps). The truck driver was looking to enter on the wrong side and was out of the wagonR driver's line of sight. The WagonR driver just wanted to overtake this large vehicle and probably stepped on his accelarator, while the driver of the vechicle in the middle lane saw the truck moving to the right lane and slowed down. By the time the truck was in the wagonR driver's line of sight, it was too late.

I drive a lot on four lane highways and have made a habit of sorts of not overtaking any vehicle till I have a clear line of vision on either side of the vehicle. It also helps by keeping a good distance between the vehicle I am planning to overtake. I mean as a rule, I do not stick to the rear of the slow moving vehicle and dart out of his line to overtake him (F1 style). I see a lot of drivers doing this on the highway. Many a times it so happens that we think that the truck driver is moving to the left to let us pass, but in reality he is moving to the left due to an idiot driving on the wrong side. Imagine the consequences if a car driver is doing the F1 style overtaking in such circumstances.

Very validate point made there mr bhat. People are inspired by F1, and follow the concept of slip stream.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Saw this truck with front axle failure yesterday morning, I don't understand why this is too common to see this kind of axle failure in trucks/buses/pick-ups? I think the main reason behind this kind of breakdowns is lack of proper maintenance/servicing.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Its also to do with the fact that most busses/trucks are way overloaded more than the vehicles capacity. You must have seen weigh bridges on the highways. These are places where the truck needs to be weighed to see if it is within permissible limits. Unluckily, like most things in India, these also run on bribes.

Darn! This looks really bad.

Like one of the previous posts of the Honda City being crushed by a falling rock, this one looks like the truck did a skid-wheelie and slammed the swift completely on the rock. Given the fact that the fuel lid looks so close to the rock, I am certain that any escape from this would be nothing short of a miracle!

Trust all have read about the Shiv Sena corporator's episode on the expressway. tyre burst and banged a Wagon-R on the opposite lane and luckily no casualties.

The worst one I read this morning was of the stupid manover of an Indica overtaking at 430 in the morning straight onto a speeding ST bus. Ironically, the ST driver is in the jail for rash and negligent driving. Agreed, that the ST guys drive crazy but clearly the Indica guy has erred. As the footnote says, the pregnant wife has not been told of her husband's demise.

How many more before we can drive responsibly? Drive safe.

I think this is hazard light and brake light, notice the roof mounted brake light. So it seems like Swift driver realised the truck's unexpected behaviour and pressed the brakes hard.

i honestly pray to god - please dont do this to anyone in the whole world. not even the worst terrorist. :(

i am thinking that either the truck reversed badly or the swift at high speed got beneath the truck and with its axles lifted swayed the rear of the truck along with the swift into the rocks.

there is not even a bit of chance for miraculous escape. one of the worst that i have seen

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

If this is the Kuthiran accident, here is it how happened as per the local media. The car was following the truck on Kuthiran Ghat section. The truck for some reason stalled and started coming down reverse. The Car driver realized this and parked the car on the side of the road. Unfortunately the truck in an effort to avoid the ditch on the other side came straight on the parked car which was crushed between the truck and the rock.
There is a even more gruesome video of this on youtube.

Is it really possible for a car to be crushed so badly in the above given scenario?
