No offence but, if viewed in thumbnail, this wagon-R looks like the Omni!


Shows how safe the budget vehicles are. It should be made mandatory(like in USA) that vehicles must have airbags, ABS, EBD, etc. Good effort by Honda to provide the safety pack as standard across all variants of the Jazz and City , Toyota provides ABS&EBD as standard in Liva & Etios diesel , Nissan provides Airbags as a standard equipment across all variants of the petrol Micra. Other manufacturers should try and follow these Japanese giants on providing safety equipments as standard instead of those flashy chrome strips all over the body.

Agree. And since our aam janta doesn't show a preference for variants with these highly essential safety features, it seems we'll need some help from our not-so-interested government in the form of stricter regulations and changes in the Motor Vehicles act to force manufacturers to make them standard across all variants.

But in accidents such as these (the red WagonR and the Ertiga pics posted by @h14 above) ie full-frontal high speed impacts, I doubt any number of safety features can save a person. One can only hope to avoid such incidents by driving carefully and responsibly.

This happened on 15th Nov on the Ring Road connecting tumkur road to mysore road in Nagarabhavi around 8:30 PM. The truck was heading towards Nayandahalli( Mysore road) and apparently the truck's rear left tyre burst and the driver lost control , swerved to the left and truck fell down to the service road below. There were two occupants in the truck at that time - driver and cleaner. Driver was killed on the spot and cleaner is in critical condition. Luckily no one was hurt on the service road below . There is no way he could be driving it fast as there is a road hump some 50 meters from the spot the truck jumped.



Cabin was completely wrecked and maximum damage was on the driver's side since it fell on that side




Mangled remains of the truck, metal pieces and concrete was all over the place. The truck was carrying some liquid- was marked Red Rum at the back.




Place from there the truck fell. Height should be at least 20 feet. The whole service road was blocked for two days and truck was lifted up today .

This wouldn't have happened if they had the tires inspected regularly.

Next are those barrier/concrete poles should be designed & rated to stop vehicles going through them and we all know how well that's done in our roads.
Someone is making tons of money supplying these useless concrete barriers...they are just a show piece...

A car caught fire near Erumeli but the driver escaped unscathed. Fire Force unit arrived and doused the fire.

Atleast after the incident the barrier needs to be brought back to shape. I dont see even that happening.

So forget about even getting the barrier up for show piece purpose too

But these days most of the trucks plying within city limits don't have their tyres in proper condition. Clicked this one some time back near Arekere Signal, BG road during peak hours.

The truck drivers really get a raw deal - inhumane workspace - noise, no power steering, no power anything. Cabs do not meet any safety standard. Frustration leads then to take undue risks.

I have some information regarding the accident. His wife had gained consciousness after 3 days in the hospital and she had conveyed what had really happened.

It happened in broad day-light and he was doing good 3 digit speeds. His wife and kids were in the rear seat. It happened when he overtook a lorry and while switching back to the left lane, seems he had panicked as the steering did not respond and he had told his wife that the steering has locked and eventually it dragged him to the left extreme, hit the pillar and toppled over.

He was still conscious at that time and had called his home to report on the accident. The truck whom he overtook stopped over and called 108 for help and left the scene.

No one has any clue on the steering failure. Will update if I get any more information in this regard.

His wife and kids are now safe and still recovering. Really sad incident :-(

Thanks for updating us about the real cause,but does it look scary?.Steering failure on a new product by Maruti. I wish it may be a one of incident or else people's confidence on buying this "LUV" will be impacted.

Yes, that indeed is a Ford Ikon. By the way, that's near my hometown. Wonder what could have caused the fire. Maybe a short circuit or a broken fuel line.

For the Ertiga accident, there is a chance that the steering was alright but under panic situation, the driver felt that the car was not responding to his inputs. Many a times, it happens that people, under panic, cannot act the way they are thinking. I really hope that the real cause of this accident comes to light as a steering failure (if that indeed is what happened) is a serious issue.

Well even if Maruti wishes to investigate the steering failure its not possible because of the state the car is in!

Guess if he had braked and bled some speed off he could have survived.Also was everyone in the car wearing seatbelt? If not then its carelessness.

I saw this wreckage being cleared on Saturday at around 11am on my way to Mysore. Unlikely that a tire burst caused this, because just about a few meters from where the truck fell off the road there is a speed breaker and a big one at it.
What are the chances that he took the speed breaker at full clip and lost control causing the truck to fall off the road ? I am speculating here, coz if he had noticed the speed breaker and slowed down the chances of such a catastrophic accident is pretty low.
