re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

This happened just before GRTP (after ITPL), opp. the container corp. The car hit a stationary volvo bus. Not sure what exactly happened, but looks like he tried to avoid something and lost control. Both occupants looked fine.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Here's the latest one near Karnala bird sanctuary, on the Mumbai - Goa highway. Despite this zone having sharp, blind curves and known for accidents, people still don't learn the lessons.

http://www.afternoondc.in/city-news/.../article_84868

The car seems to have been in a direct collision path with an oncoming tanker, and the impact was so huge it was rammed against a tree after it (as can be seen from the photo).

Yes the place karnala khind on nh17 has many blind curves. It seems the lady was driving at high speed looking at the condition of the vehicle. All the passengers except the lady were in their teens.

From the article,

Quote:
A case of rash driving has been registered against the dumper driver who ran away from the spot.
Donno who is at fault here.. But even if its not his mistake, still the dumper driver will be charged.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

^^ Its the police's usual incompetent habit to find a bakra and stick charges. Usually the larger vehicle, the more expensive one or the surviving vehicle/person gets the rash driving charge.
What the hell is rash driving? What constitutes it, who defines it? Some illogical charge drummed up by the dehati cop and the defendant spends a few years of his life fighting the charge before he gets aquitted due no evidence.

NH 17 should be closed to traffic or declared as a dangerous road, and vehicles plying on it, will do so at their own risk by government order. It is not even a proper 2 laned road in most places, forget a national highway. The road is entirely unmarked, with non standard junctions, towns popping up suddenly, big blind curves, narrow bridges, you name the hazard, its got it.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Did a search. Doesn't seem like this one has been reported here. A mother and daughter perished. :(

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/ka...uilty/1127068/

A builder/developer had dumped construction material waste obstructing the flow of water. A huge body of water accumalted and when the pressure increased beyond a limit, the water flooded the area. :(

Any car driven irresponsibly is not safe for the driver as well as others on the road. It doesn't matter whether it is a man/woman on the wheels.

This one from The Hindu, Hyderabad 15/06/2013 - A Swift DZire catches fire charring a man to death:

http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/...cle4815169.ece

Very unfortunate!

The day before yesterday (13/06/2013), a brand new Maruti SX 4 had caught fire near the High Court in Nagpur, Maharashtra and the reasons could not be known. The sole occupant, its driver escaped but reasons for the fire were not reported.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

This accident happened just a few hours ago. (Got unconfirmed news that the driver and co-driver escaped) It may be a case of driver error, the condition of the road (read NH47) is also to blame. They have been constructing a new bridge near Irumbupalam for years, and the work will go on for years. It takes 30-45 mins to cross the bridge, i.e a few hundred feet. The funniest part is that they do all the repairs during the monsoon.
I've added a pic just to show the condition of the road (again read NH47)

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Earlier I had posted a few facts in this post. Now, I am uploading some images that I managed to capture. Please note that these images are of 40 ft. long container trailers. The condition of the tractor is mentioned in the earlier post.

These images are nothing short of shocking. Imagine the weight and the size of the container which it carries, and what would happen in case of a sudden burst. More than the truck, the container or the driver, the life of other road users is at risk. In wet condition what if there is an emergency braking maneuver ? My intention of this post is just to make others aware of the risks involved. After I had observed the condition of trucks over a period of time, whenever I meet a truck on highway, I make sure that sufficient margin in kept from them while overtaking. Such small steps can help us stay safe in a world ( or nation ? ) where trucks are rarely maintained, drivers are rarely trained and often overworked. Greed or sheer arrogance, but these transport companies will do their best not to act in a positive and timely manner.

What's with the shape of some of the tires? Almost looks like they were ridden on railway tracks!

Probably caused due to underinflation of tyres, which causes the outside part of the tyre to make more contact with the road due to hard sidewalls and the middle portion bending inwards due to inadequate air.

Underinflation is more dangerous in tyres than filling it a few points more.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

IMHO it is opposite. Over inflation for better mileage. It results in the middle portion of the tyre to take up the load coz of the shape of overinflated tyre. This leads to the faster wearing of the middle layer.

Very common here unfortunately.
