This is why other countries have moved on to putting crash guards in the median which prevents vehicles hurtling to the opposite side. I don't know when will NHAI wake up and decide to install this in all medians.

These guys will never learn.

Off topic, but the rear over hang of the bus looks really long. Is it just me, or is there something wrong there?

Typical bus body is allowed 60% overhang - 60% of distance between front and rear tyres. Though this is not safest but for plains that is the overhang allowed by RTO's

Could you please explain what's implied? Perhaps I'm missing some vital clues of the cause of the mishap.

Could be the angle of the photograph. AFAIK, these buses do not have their rear overhang extended beyond the factory-fabricated chassis. The CMVR allows an ROH of up to 60% of the wheel-base

With 22 years and few lakh kms of driving experience, I have formed a general opinion. Now I drive mostly in areas where these private buses are an absolute nuisance, be it city roads, 2 lane or 4 lane highways. 95% of the buses are driven by maniacal morons who don't care one bit about others on the road. They have no respect for life and seem to be backed by moneyed or powerful owners who keep coaxing them to drive as and how they want to earn that extra penny. I also believe, at least in some areas, that any collection above a certain fixed amount (which goes to the owner), goes into the pockets of the driver and the conductor and hence the above driving style.
Based on my experience with these morons, when I see an accident involving these killing machines, unless proved otherwise, I will always blame the bus.

Same goes for 2 wheelers. I also ride, so don't call me biased.

Now, the above is absolutely my opinion and we may agree to disagree, and move on.

Regarding the ROH. Thanks for the info. Like you said, could be the angle. But it does appear unusually long to my eyes.

On the Sleeper bus crash wonder how useful was the narrow emergency exit doors. I can see it was used but at the same time the window has been broken (Safety glass?) to allow faster exit.

The windows of the sleeper buses are usually narrow. In this case, the windows might have cracked on impact since the whole body of the bus will flex in such a situation and all the glasses can crack if the flexing is severe.

Unless hit by a bigger vehicle, without driver error (sudden evasive maneuver or straying beyond road shoulder or plain sleeping and missing curve) how can a huge bus turn upside down ? Also, being a sleeper, passengers trapped inside would struggle to escape. Im sure people know about this risk when they decide to travel by a sleeper. From the pics, the rear overhang "looks" more than 60% of the wheelbase

Got this through WA. This happened in Udupi near the city bus stand on 13th. The median ends just before where the Scorpio stands. Maybe someone took a u turn and forced the Scorpio off the road.

I first thought it was a Volvo then realised it is a normal sleeper.

The unusual overhang is to accommodate an extra row of berths(to accommodate 2+2+1+1)

This is a clear case of overspeeding and the car going out of control. What else can one expect from Zoomcar hirers?

+1 As much as I hate to generalize, it is a sad reality of reckless and rash driving consistently displayed by people driving rental cars.

Repeated Honking, overtaking and cutting into other's lane, over speeding, unnecessary braking, zipping over speed brakers are typical behaviors exhibited to name a few.

Seeing a Zoom car or similar rental vehicle on the road sets alarm bells / trigger to make way and stay clear off them.

Dindigul-Theni highway. Two lane road with lot of turns. Very accident prone, as almost everyone wants to overtake everybody else, everywhere. Add to that, many connecting roads from villages from which two-wheelers and other vehicles join the highway, as if they have nothing to lose.

My God! He came like a bolt of lightning. Wet roads, high speed, curve, top heavy SUV and a car which belongs to someone else. Sure shot recipe for disaster.
