OMG!!!

That is really shocking to watch! Unless the car had brake failure, I sincerely hope this driver is booked for murder, and put behind bars for the rest of his/her life!
My condolences to the families of the people who were killed/injured in this accident.

Cheers

School bus of Ryan International School, Bannerghatta, Bengaluru met with an accident, T-boned by another mini bus. Inside CCTV footage actually proves why seat belts are required even in buses.

The inside view is so scary. Just shows the momentum with which passengers get thrown in a crash.

On another note, the lady involved must be appreciated. She has good presence of mind after the crash to immediately care for the child in the bus and escort the child to the exit.

ohh man that looks scary... thank God there were not many kids in the bus. I think she saw the mini bus coming. Big salute to the lady's presence of mind and immediate reaction to make sure the kid is safe with out wasting any time. God bless her.

The tilt of the vehicle (front turned towards its right) in its fallen position and the closed left ORVM hints that the vehicle was driven from the far-side along the space on the left side of the drain and it plunged to its right into the drain where the slabs are missing.

Seeing the school bus accident in Bangalore mentioned in the post above, I feel that a bus too should have seatbelts for all occupants in it ( I know several other countries which follow this eg: China).

Rahul

This is true, a person who lives near my home and drives for the TNSTC says that in case of accidents, they surrender voluntarily themselves even if they are not at fault to save themselves from the mob and to not be considered as the guilty party. Their headquarters and union are notified and they have lawyers who get them out on bail and mostly quash these cases where they are not at fault in courts. That's their standard operating procedure as instructed by their bosses.

Found this in today's news, it happened in Himachal, for those who do not understand Punjabi, the Ecosport summersaulted 4-5 times, there was only one person in the car, the driver, he was absolutely fine after the crash, and started clicking pictures of the car, after coming out of it. This is the Ford build quality.

Some Fully Built Vehicles (FBV) sold as school buses by OEMs (Ashok Leyland, Bharat Benz, Tata Motors) offer individual seat belts for passengers as an optional feature or as a standard feature. If a law mandates it, everyone will follow suit.

The driver was most probably wearing the seat belt, that's the highlight.

The Ecosport definitely looks like it has aquaplaned. And if the driver did not suffer anything major, it surely means he was belted. Had that not been the case, he would have been thrown around with dangerous results.

A front tyre burst on Innova caused it to jump to the opposite lane and hit a truck near Chitradurga on NH4. 5 people died in the mishap.

I have seen multiple accidents involving mostly Innovas and other high GC vehicles jumping to opposite lanes. Isnt there a stability feature that could prevent such jumping over of vehicles. It not only endangers the people in such high GC vehicles but also the people on opposite lanes.

Vehicles jumping over from opposite lane is my worst nightmare while driving on highways.

There are two aspects in preventing vehicles from jumping into opposite lane:
1. Vehicle factors:
The case above describes a tyre blow out incident:
- TPMS monitors and warns of low tyre pressure. If not OEM, it is available as very cheap aftermarket.
- The owner should look out for signs of tyre damage and replace at the earliest. (Common sense is not so common.)
- Electronic stability control (ESC) helps to control the car upto a level after tyre blow out.
(In the case of Innova, only the top end automatic petrol and diesel have ESC).
On a related note, ESC to be mandatory on cars manufactured after 2023 onwards.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/auto.nd...le-1922416/amp

In case it is due to decreased alertness of driver:
- Lane departure warning.
- Driver drowsiness detection systems.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driv...ness_detection

2. Road factors:
In case of 4/6/8 lane highways, either
- the median height should be increased (tall concrete barriers) to prevent jump over to opposite lane

or
- both sides should be separated by distance.

There will also be a background for these observations. Consider the fact that Innovas are quite the choice for people who hire cars for an outstation trip, and that is very common on the highways. Added to this, the fact that people are ignorant about replacing tyres(cabbies more so) and trying to patch up torn tyres, use cheap chinese brands, etc increases the probability of these cars ending in accidents frequently. Unless people start appreciating preventive maintenance, no safety feature can cover up their mistakes. And GC is not something that will play against the Innova. It is neither on stilts nor a sleeper so its pretty okay in that regard.

This is real bad! Just imagine if the bus was full of kids, cannot even imagine that. The lady and the lone kid were very very luck to get away with probably no bodily harm. There has to be accountability from the school as well in such situations...
