Section 33 of Motor Vehicles Act 1988 seems to deal with the options available to people who have had their conductor license revoked.

I didn't check the mentioned act but I am aware that jaywalking is an offense and they can be fined in India.

Not so long to BTP was quite active punishing jaywalkers on Brigade road. If they were penalizing, am sure it would be via certain Act.

This video from a Collegehumour alumnus came to mind; he branched off to mainstream TV with his "Adam ruins everything" show. I believe the video says pretty much that jaywalking was made a crime after the fact, at the behest of vested interests.

Inadequate infrastructure is not the only problem. If you've been to Bangalore's Koramangala, you will see so many pedestrian crossings and overhead bridges. And yet, people cross the road over signal and won't take the crossing. Traffic speed is painfully slow so, it kinda works out for them (it takes usually an hour to traverse 1km road, Bangalore people can relate).

One example is, there's an overhead bridge right in-front of Forum mall. And there's a signal both are almost same distance from the mall. Guess which sees highest footfall? Few reasons I heard is, "we need to climb up and down", "there's a signal anyway", "this is quicker". Here, 95% of the footfall comprises of young people (in their 20s).

Why will govt spend crores, if people won't even notice it? They'll just pocket the whole amount, and get themselves another Fortuner.

A CCTV video footage of a bike rider being tossed into the air, after his bike rams to the steps of a grocery store building at Padavinangady, Mangalore while trying to avoid colliding against a scooter, has gone viral on social media.
The bike rider succumbed to injuries at a private hospital on Friday May 7.

A smorgasbord of errors leading to death of a rider in Mangalore.

https://twitter.com/kudla_aviation/s...247543815?s=19
  • Over speeding on such narrow roads
  • Scooter guy going the wrong way
  • Civic Authorities who placed the junction at a curve
  • Shop bang at the side of the road with no setbacks..is there even a rule in India for this?
  • Helmet being worn as an ornament rather than a life saving tool.

I am not able to figure out if the KTM guy did anything to avoid this...he seems to have quick enough to avoid the scooter guy but then doesn't brake or counter steer to avoid the shop at all.

Even though there was a combination of reasons, the above two are the primary reasons of the accident. The scooter guy easily takes most of the responsibility on this. Just crossed two lanes diagonally like it’s his own private road.

He did not countersteer when he avoided the scooter. He just used his body to move his bike away from the scooter.

What I realy find puzzling is that both riders lost their helmets. Were they buckled on?

If you read the newspaper article, the entire blame is being placed on the truck. It is being called an angel of death that suddenly bore down on the couple on the motorcycle. Such careless reporting is unfortunate as it doesn’t instill any knowledge of safe driving and the rules of the road in the masses. If the newspaper had said that the dangerous mistake of driving on the wrong side of the road led to the couple paying a heavy price, it can at least make some people aware of the risks in doing so. Instead the accident is being blamed on fate.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Another gas tanker lorry accident at a place in Northern District of Kerala. (Chala, Kannur). But luckily, no lives lost.

About 9 years ago, in a similar tragedy, at the same place, 22 people residing in the nearby areas lost their lives due to the explosion and aftermath.

Quote:
KANNUR: With a bit of luck and timely intervention of the police, fire force and local people, a possible tragedy was averted as a tanker lorry carrying a full load of LPG overturned at Chala bypass here at 2pm on Thursday. The incident, which evoked memories of a similar tragedy in 2012, which had claimed 22 lives, left the people living in the area in fear and police had to evacuate them as part of precaution. The situation was brought under control by late evening.
Looks like an auto rickshaw driver was at the wheel.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

I felt the rider was fast for the curve and road he was on. It looks to me like a 40 KMPH road, the rider might have been doing 60+ KMPH. Not that the guy in wrong direction is not to blame. The affected rider would have been able to control had he been going slightly slower. Something probably blocked his view too, otherwise it was a clear road.

Feel extremely sad for the loss of a young life, the lethal outcome of such a collective callousness.

- The biker Prasanth with his KTM Duke, is riding at a breakneck speed on a narrow stretch of the road. Evidently, he was trying to make up for the lost time to reach his workplace in a hurry.

- There is a break in the road divider at the spot, to give right of way to traffic users to cross over to the other side. Expectedly, vehicles could be suddenly spotted here trying to cross over, which is nothing new and surprising in India, and the late biker at age 30 needed to have had such a perception, prompting him to slow down.

- The scooter (presumably a white Activa) rider had very much entered the other half of the road and was just about to cross over, when the KTM biker trying to save him was tossed over. Hence, had the scooterist been on the kerbside of the road, attempting to rashly enter, almost the full onus of the fault would have come to him. But it was not so. He did not make a sudden, rash entry, but was already within the road, reaching near the road divider to cross over. Despite this fact, he cannot be absolved of any fault of his and he is also culpable.

- Perhaps the Bajaj Pulsar obscured the KTM biker's full view of the white Activa down there and being at a breakneck speed, things went beyond the KTM biker's control. Sadly, the Pulsar rider was doing some spirited riding, at a controlled speed and also fell victim. Its however good that he has escaped with minor injuries.

- The KTM rider rode this brand of a bike with a makedo and namesake helmet (no chin protection too perhaps), did'nt wear protective shoes, protective gear, liked rash driving and did not use his brakes at all, despite sighting an impending danger. He had invited danger and has sadly succumbed to it.

- Lesson for all:

- Buy a bike brand and model that does'nt tempt or prompt you to overspeed out of limits, which are alien to you.

- Learn to control your machine at a particular high speed and only then attempt such speeds. Obscene speeds need to be totally avoided on roads. The Buddha Circuit is a place where such manoeuvres will be praised.

- And on such Indian city roads, even a stray dog or stray cattle (not to speak of callous traffic users) can throw surprises and cause untold miseries. Manoeuvre your machine accordingly to take care of such obstacles.

Feels terrible to watch the footage. It seems like the rider hadn't fastened his helmet properly as it comes off his head mid-air. Either that, or as many do in India, he bought a helmet that was too large for his head

I think over-speeding is the main cause of this accident. The KTM rider was too fast for that section of the road with a turning. Scooter rider might have considered relative speed of the other two bikes to enter the road to cross. However, scooter rider instead of going diagonally could have gone straight. It seems both bike riders involved in the accident were wearing helmet to save fine not for safety
