I think it is not about rumble strips. There's a barrier there, and the truck driver may not have seen it until late, so swerves, showing how easy it is to flip a truck! I wonder where the centre of gravity of that tall load is!
Too funny I must say.. You have good sense of humor.

Regarding the barrier, I am quite sure this was not related to barrier but the rumble strips. How I know? Because I do the same, half car on rumble strip and half on plain road, it reduces the jerks significantly (please do not follow this advice, it may be illegal in some countries, but I am being true to myself). However, this truck was too fast and overloaded for that manouver.

I think some object out the camera view lifted the car's right side wheels. That does not look like a standard roll

Agreed. Multiple factors here : truck speeding while negotiating the curve, a barricade placed at the curve's end that the truck driver tried to avoid, overloaded truck, unsecured load that caused a load shift and increased chances of a rollover. The unbelted occupants who got ejected were also lucky here.
Rumble strips had no role. Trucks barely feel such rumble strips.

Agreed. This was due to trying to avoid the barrier. Truck was just too heavily loaded to swerve like that. I don't get the point of placing a barrier in the middle of a lane on a highway. Thankfully, we don't see this much in north India anymore. (Except active police checkpoints)

Well, I wasn't really trying to be funny --- it really is too easy to flip a vehicle.

But, on a lighter note, I wondered what that barrier was even doing there? And thought that it's purpose might have been to create awkward situations for the CCTV to capture!

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

All,

Was passing the infamous Thoppur ghat road in TN, a very short while ago
Saw aftermath of an accident on the lanes going towards Salem
One bus seems to have rammed to the median/ right side
Few metres ahead, one lcv is tipped over to its sides
One laden truck was right behind the tipped truck
This was the placement of the vehicles when our bus passed the spot
Crane was working to pull out the bus

Actual dynamics of vehicles/ accident is not clear
There were no signs of passengers or drivers of vehicles
The bus appears to be a TNSTC vehicle

We were also traveling in same direction and all traffic being diverted to the other side of road, to facilitate the rescue/ salvage/ clearing ops

Traveling in a sleeper bus, top berth

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Happened near our home just now! There is a sharp almost blind curve, which also happens to be a local bus stop. Limited Stop buses, or long distance buses don't stop here, so they usually overtake the stopped local buses on this curve. They get away with this by forcing smaller vehicles off the road. This time, the oncoming vehicle happened to be another Limited Stop bus. And its been raining non-stop since morning. The end result, this crash.

I went to the spot on hearing the sound. Seems several passengers (mostly students, due to it being school/college time) had sustained minor injuries including cuts to the face and arms. They were sent off to the nearby hospital via an alternate road. Being an NH, traffic started to build up on both sides. And as expected, several buses jumped the line and created more block.

It would be interesting to know the rules around hazard lights from various countries.

It's been a while Kerala enforced this colour code for buses.

Green for city buses
Blue for outside city ordinary buses
Maroon for long distance limited stops

It's helpful in a way that if you see a Maroon bus in rear view mirror = Give way as those are driven very rashly.

With the way these folks were riding their bikes, accident was inevitable. But didn't expect the accident to happen in this manner

Such a mockery

That is great road like in many places in Kerala but the bus driving behavior is still stuck in the past. The biker was very sensibly riding for the conditions and very lucky to be alive from these manslaughter attempts. These drivers need to be jailed based on the video evidence.

Three buses overtaking a truck on a blind turn. And the third one is an absolute idiot, tailing the bus in front so close. And guess what, the KSRTC bus which was right behind the bike, might have been saved by this incident.

I am wondering what could be a deterrent for these blind overtakes? Honking? Especially those high dB musical ones?

Bikers are vulnerable in such cases, especially on ghats when you have a long gap in the front. Having a pilot vehicle is ideal in such scenarios.
