Slightly off topic and no offence meant but on most highways and expressways, being at the speed limit does not mean one cruises in the right most lane. This is a malaise frequently seen on the Bombay Pune expressway too.

The rightmost lane is for overtaking only and once you complete an overtaking manoeuvre one should settle back into the second lane, even if it is at the speed limit.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Found these pictures in Facebook. No clear details on how it happened, based the little information it was a head-on collusion, Venue driver sustained minor injuries whereas Tiago driver unfortunately passed away. Driver's airbag in Tiago didn't deploy, not sure of it was due to driver's mistake or otherwise. One thing is clear, irrespective of number of safety stars the car possess, its your star that will save you on that day, drive safe.

For the records Tiago is rated 4 star and Venue is not tested yet.

It does not look like a head-on collision. Venue t-boned Tiago hitting the driver's side of Tiago. This is why the Tiago diver side door, front right wheel, and A-pillar is badly damaged but the front grill and bumper are fine. This also explains why the Tiago airbag did not deploy not that it would help in this case. GNCAP stars do not matter in this case.

He is a stupid man. If his watch is telling the truth, a heart rate of 178 and a sustained heart rate of 155/160 will ensure an early grave, yet the fool is bothered about his fortuner instead of calling for an ambulance. I understand that his car costs 50 lakh, but what is his life's worth?

Coming back to the accident, a soft bodied animal can never cause the extent of frontal damage that's seen. The cow should have been thrown over the windscreen and roof, yet the roof is undamaged.

Indeed looks like a sideways hit around the right front wheel of Tiago. But the driver airbag not getting deployed needs to be investigated because the passenger airbag can be seen deployed. If the sensor was triggered to deploy an airbag, both should have got deployed rather than just the passenger one.

Agree. I didn't add that I had just overtaken the aforementioned Baleno!

My bad, I did not observe earlier. I think the front airbag got deployed but got removed. See this picture below, looks like the airbag was removed from the steering wheel.

There is another theory/youtube video that states a tanker either hit the cow/swerved hard and our Fortuner fellow (maybe busy shooting and talking about the idli he had earlier) smashed into the tanker. Now if this theory is to be believed, the extent of damage to the Fortuner is also believable.

Now it is very much possible that he started recording once the tanker disappeared from the spot and of course, we can never see the actual moment of the crash, which will screw up his viewership numbers.

Can you please share the link to the video which mentions this theory of tanker hitting a cow.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

This is regarding the Tiago - Venue accident.

It looks like Kerala but I could be wrong.

There's a continuous white line in the middle of the road, meaning we shouldn't overtake by crossing the line and going to other side.

This could've been kept due to many reasons like narrow roads or past history or sharp curves etc.

There appears no intersection in the photos but a T-bone can be possible, by an overtake attempt or moving to other lane to avoid oncoming vehicle etc, on a no-overtake zone.

Similar Video :

Here its a double Yellow line in the middle means, it is more restrictive and strictly no overtakes.

More Details on the road markings are in the below link.

https://www.onmanorama.com/news/busi...ite-lines.html

Many road users are coming on roads, without basic awareness of road markings, that's a pity. They need traffic education first and next how to drive a car.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Around 3 p.m. today, this accident occurred on the Tirupur-Madurai route before Koduvai Village, which is close to the town of Dharapuram.

At a high rate of speed (>150), the XUV700 crossed the lane and struck the approaching bus. Fortunately, it was a bus. All of the occupants, who were young adults in their 30s, perished, and the XUV's engine is out on the road. Due to the hit of the XUV700, the bus's front tyre was torn off.

Perfect example for how star ratings are irrelevant on any roads if one doesn't have the road sense to drive according to one's circumstances. Feel sorry for the people who died but they were highly irresponsible and had very poor judgement driving at that speed.

I do not think that a cow is very soft, especially if hit at high speed.

I don't know if it was literally true, but my Dad scolded me for not taking a cow seriously enough, telling me, "That cow weighs as much as this car."

What a horrendous experience it must have been for the travelers in the Bus. May the departed souls rest in peace.

However, I would like to wait for some time and see what details come out before make a call on calling the car drivers irresponsible. On our roads, you never know what could have caused this accident other than high speed driving. 150KMPH is just near impossible to sustain on our roads unless you get a dead straight road with no traffic for a long stretch. This looks like at 4-lane state highway and I don't think any sane person would think of hitting 150KMPH here unless drunk or something.

The pandemic-era construction of the 4-lane SH (that portion is straight ) makes for a pretty superb road with fantastic driving views (very few buildings on the sides). Initial reports indicate that everyone inside was inebriated (offcourse not too sure). It was too gruesome for me to upload the photos of the deceased .

Another factor is that the car is new, which tempts you to accelerate more. Additionally, there's a probability that they tested ADAS while driving quickly.
