re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

This happened few days ago on the Bellary Road in Bangalore.

Some underpasses can be built and maintained well for safe movement of pedestrians.

Looks like Swift was the culprit, Brezza's right front side collided with its left front side.

Wrong side driving is a birthright in India for some. Same thing happens on the ramp in front of Thyagaraj Stadium.

Good to hear that you and your family is unscathed!

Was the car in neutral / was the hand break engaged?

ZERO anticipation and complete lack of defensive driving. Even a slight slow down or congestion ahead means there is something ahead to be wary of. Slow down or stop!. Not veer this side or that side!. If he was too fast for either, then he was too fast in those road conditions.

Very true! It's also about time, cattle and stray shouldn't have such easy access to main roads/highways. Fatal for them as well as a menace for road users.

Really terrible driving. Guy ahead slowing? Charge on regardless? No!

The innocent party here is the poor cow. I hope the car repair was very, very expensive.

On the rural roads, tractors are big threat, if we do not anticipate them.

1. They do not have proper functional tail lamps, so not suited for highways
2. Their drivers are mostly untrained and not aware of the risks involved either to them/others
3. If they have a trolley behind, they can't turn swiftly to make way

In this case, from the photos, the impact is on the left side of the car.
I think the tractor tried to join the highway on wrong side from side road and hit the car moving on left lane.

I had faced similar incident few months back near Nandi Hills. I was expecting someone to come from behind the tree and it happened.

I hope the Nexon owner had to face a huge repair bill. As for the cattle, well - it's not really the loose cattle that troubles me. It's such reckless driving that gets my goat (sic.) As you say - what's with all this veering and what does it cost someone to just stop out of precaution in such situations?

10 years ago on the Chennai-Bangalore highway, a truck-trailer had swiped a 2 wheeler and the rider and pillion had fallen on the road. So most of us passing by had blocked the road with our cars and had just finished picking up the injured and their 2 wheeler when a Bolero snuck between the parked cars and whooshed past us at very high speed. Had the idiot driver done so 2 seconds earlier, I would have been roadkill.

Just saw this tweet posted by @K. P.
Ashish regarding a tractor-Mercedes Benz accident in Andhra Pradesh. The tractor driver was injured, while the Merc driver escaped unhurt.

The tractor was carrying sand in its trailer has broken into two parts and are separated far apart.

Well, that's how most folks ride/drive on Kerala highways - meandering from one side to the other repeatedly.
And this is both in 2-lane stretches or 4-lane with lanes marked. And funnily they do this even when the road ahead is empty.

So you are behind one such guy who is sticking to the left and you decide to overtake. The moment you get close, he will swing to the right.
A little after you abort the overtaking, he will swing back to the left. Again repeat.
While in my car, this doesn't bother me, but on my bike, this can be scary.

Actually, if licenses were to be issued solely on holding a straight line while riding/driving, most folks here would fail.

I'd make a snarky joke about the build quality of tractors, but there must have been at least one person on it, and fear for them: no protection whatsoever.

Is there no requirement for some sort of roll bar? That guy didn't even have a sunshade.

Saw this Mahindra Marazzo at a service centre. Car took the impact well, no cabin intrusion.

The tractor does not have a chassis, The engine bolted to the bell housing bolted to the gearbox bolted to the differential housing bolted to the rear axle tube itself acts as a chassis.
Front axle assembly (with or without suspension) is again bolted to the engine block.

The bell housing is cast metal and delebrately kept weaker than the Engine block, so that it will break and not the engine block in case of an accident.
