Sorry to hear about the accident. These volvo buses has come become missiles in the wrong hands. Earlier Volvo used to give proper training to handle the buses. I think they are pass. With sales hitting sky, Volvo seems to have forgotten the training. Now with every L Board Drivers driving volvos, only GOD should save us.

I saw the pic in Indian Express and it was horrifying to see the front of volvo right which has been completely mashed and no way of driver and the passenger behind him had chances of surviving. It's pity to hear that though the accident occurred very near to the toll ,but no emergency/First Aid given the persons involved in the accidents to save the lifes.

Here is the picture of the ghastly accident at Coimbatore. - Courtesy- Dinamalar website.
Biju's explanation perfectly matches the scene. Truck at the extreme left of the road on beyond the shoulder and Volvo's angle shows it came right in front and tried to swerve to his right.

God thats a nasty crash! the truck has made a huge cave into the bus... seems like the volvo was overtaking and could not get back the lane in time!

btw lucky that the truck dint catch fire/burst! and the bus looks to be new!
its the 3rd volvo(ksrtc) crash in last 1year i guess.

That is really terrible. May God give their families the strength to bear with this irrepairable loss. People prefer Volvos for intercity commute as they are perceived to be safer. Guess it is only as safe as the nut behind the wheel.

how come suddenly there are so many accidents involving VOLVO'S. They don't have speed control/governors installed. When the driver puts his leg on the accelerator it will be running at min speed of 100-110kms/hr

Yes I think you are Right!!!

I travel from Mumbai to Indore via Volvo's and see that in the night's they drive at 120 and 130's also. I am really thinking to shift my self to train from now on. I will choose to be on safer side.

Volvos are the safest machines among the present lot on the road. The difference is who is driving this machine. Some factors which lead to such accidents might be : drivers put under time pressure to reach destinations, lack of adequate sleep/rest, lack of road sense (even the other drivers using road).

One good thing with the Volvo crash is that the Lorry didn't catch fire since we could see the Highly Inflammable written on the tanker. Luckily the lorry should have been an empty one, otherwise it could have been a major disaster.

My condolence to the family who lost their loved one.

Speed Governors

All KSRTC Volvos have their speeds limited to 90 kmph and the BMTC Volvos other than the BIAL service to 70 kmph (BIAL-90KMPH).
Now this is as per the "documentation".

Even if this is followed meticulously, a careless/sleepy/over confident driver can crash it even at 60kmph and cause serious loss of life.
It is not about Volvo or TATA in my opinion. It is all about proper driver training, and adherence to it at all times by the driver. Of course at times it could be someone else who bangs into him or the brakes fail etc but those are inevitable by "that" driver.

Saw these 3 vehicles. Can you guess the burnt vehicle and the mangled vehicle in the 3rd pic?
