nope air bags and abs only in lt model and i am sure the people in that optra did not use the seat belts
was told at gm service center that airbags will only deploy if the seat belts are on
also those are the stock goodyear gt3 tyres on that optra and they suck really bad no grip at all you brake the wheels stop turning but the tyres dont have any grip the car just slides forward
magnum + no abs+stock tyres = good recipe for disaster

Today an Elantra got hit by an Alto and toppled over at Sec 51 intersection just before Artemis hospital. (so locals said). It got over and cleaned (of any people) within ~30 min.

Today morning @ 7:30AM near electronic city a B9R Multi Axle Volvo (CONTI travel) side swiped a T.N.S.T.C bus heading towards Bangalore! I was able to see the damage on the T.N.S.T.C bus, the front right-side has a dent. Both the vehicles were stopped in middle of the road and there was bit commotion and police were seen around. Did any other member noticed it?

Good recipe for a substantial disaster on the highways

I have been travelling recently (3 months) pretty heavily by roads and following this thread closely. The TATA ACE had become a fantastic recipe for bad accidents on highways and surprised that it hasn’t met with a mishap so far.

If you look at the average road for instance the Bangalore-Krishnigiri road or the Bangalore-Chennai road the middle lane is occupied by trucks because they don’t want to stop and also be bothered by obstacles in the left of the road. Bikes and smaller vehicles choose the left side since they can keep their pace. The right lane is usually the fast lane and you can see buses cars and other fast moving traffic pushing hard.

The TATA Ace appears from nowhere and I have spotted many of them loaded to breaking point and casually driving the fast lane at snail pace with no regard to what’s coming from behind. They have become an annoyance for now and will soon become major reasons for accidents on the highways.

As a result buses and car drivers are harassed so badly when you get stuck behind a trailer and a TATA ace in the front. A regulation has to be pressed to keep the Ace away from the highways to keep the roads safe.

It is a small commercial vehicle for intra city use and not designed for the highway. Just because it can be loaded beyond the limits and helps people making an extra buck it should not be allowed on the highway and compromise the safety/convenience of other users.

The same is true with APE, all the three-wheelers including autos, specifically here in Bangalore.

Matiz crash on NH-58

Found this PB-reg Matiz yesterday on an empty stretch between Muradnagar and Modinagar, and this morning it was still there. Obviously it went into the back of a truck. Nothing known about driver/passengers -- I asked the locals, but all they know is that the driver was taken to hospital in bad shape -- they had no idea where.

Taken from "The Hindu".
Eight persons were killed in two accidents on the Krishnagiri-Thoppur National Highway on Monday night.
Three passengers of a private bus heading to Cochin from Bangalore died when its rear portion hit a stationary lorry at Palayampudur near Thoppur toll gate.

The bus was trying to overtake the parked lorry when a person tried to cross the road. The bus driver applied the brakes and swerved to the left. In the process, the bus hit the lorry

Four die in car smash
In another accident, four passengers of a car that rammed a vehicle from behind were killed on the spot. The accident took place near the Sappanipatti flyover.

+1 to that. All over India. They have no regards to other vehicles. whether in WB or AP, they give a rogue smile, if confronted.
for ACE
for APE

Man, that was really bad. Yes, these fellow drive at high speeds. Why is those lorry parked in those toll roads? No idea, and it became a frequent incidents.

Even if they have some trouble with the vehicle, they are not suppose to leave it like that in the middle of the road. And you know what, the only signs to look out would be some stones and tree branches

trying to save a pedestrian = loss of some lives on board the bus + extensive damage to vehicle. When will pedestrians on highway understand how to cross a road.

Regarding ACE / APE

Just go ahead of them and slow down against them, and show them how it feels.
I have done that, it annoys them, later they try to overtake you - but unsuccessful.
Its hard to maintain 20kmph that slow though.
