Both front seat occupants were seriously injured and taken away in an ambulance. No idea after that. The car's been there for a few days now, so obviouly no one fit enough to come and claim it.

Posting pictures of an accident on the highway while on my way to Nedumbassery airport (Cochin) from Trichur. No one was hurt. This happened some time back. But when I came across this forum, I thought of adding these pictures here.
It seem this long truck just turned left for parking and the car that was following very close rammed into it.

Well in india , th helmet and seatbelt are worn for the police not for oneself.

I have had several instance where i had a co passenger tell me that the seat belt are not mandatory in this state , or cops don't catch us etc when i put on my seat belt . One guy even went ballistic after i put it on saying that "you will kill the joy of driving"

In that case, the impact would have atleast crumpled the bodyshell of the Amby.

IMHO, it appears that the truck just reversed onto the Amby, which was stationery behind it.

No it can't be. If the truck reversed, the Amby would not be squeezed under it. Instead it would have been pushed back even if the handbrake was engaged. On the other hand an Amby braking will dip forward and manage to get under the truck and get stuck like that.

To start with I think fines should work or atleast make people aware of it. Repeated violations should lead to cancelling of the license and seizure of vehicles. The concerned department can start this with an awareness program with advertisements in all mediums.

I had been asked by one of my relatives: "Why do we need to wear seat-belts? Even though they have an elastic action, they are so loose. How they can protect us during an accident? Stupid thing and a stupid rule."

He didn't even know that the belts would lock up when it is pulled out quickly - to prevent the occupant from hitting the steering wheel or dash.

As a TBhpian it is our responsible to educate them. Please give them a demonstration of belt locks, take them for a ride with sudden brake.

When such questions were asked to me while insisting to wear belt, i used to scar them bluntly (only when not in the mood to show the demo) that my driving is not perfect, so it will save you in case the car turned like turtle

Whoa! One can get a nasty bruise at walking speed!

Which is why I always harp on that city precautions should not be any less than highway precautions.

No offenses meant, but the front of the indica now looks similar to some Citroen or Peugot model (esp. the headlights)
