Police had no vehicle of their own at that moment, as they told all the police cars were gone for escorting a minister.

The news is there in leading Malayalam newspapers.
that's close to where my parents stay!

its really sad. people just like to stand around and do nothing - watch a hapless person breath his/her last before deciding to take action! in some places, the bystanders, instead of helping the injured, grab their valuables and disappear

Had a minor incident. Was driving my 800 after a really long time. Was at standstill waiting for oncoming traffic to clear up to take a right turn. Just when I was about to move, a biker appeared out of the blues, no headlamps, no helmet nothing came with quite some speed towards my car, braked hard very late, skidded and banged to the left side of my car!: Shockked:

Few pics of the damage.

Clicked this esteem last evening near L&T By-pass road to kerala. As per the locals the car skided and hit the signal pole at high speeds and the eye-witness said it was airborne when it hit the signal post.

That Esteem looks horrendous. Any news reports on casualties? With rains lashing up S.India, accidents will go up till the roads perish in the rains.

Drive safe!

No survivors!! and too graphic even to type the aftermath as per the locals. After listing my friend who was sitting next to me in the car said this " hey man if death comes let's die peacfully in our homes..not on the roads"

Was travelling on 10th June towards Belguam – Kollapur towards Pune, Shirdi. The incident happened just before Belguam, it was raining heavily and the visibility was just 5-6 feet. Cars were doing just below 60 Kms. Right in front for my car a white swift was cursing at the same speed. All of a sudden the swift stopped and I had to take immediate right and as I crossed the swift saw Tata Sumo in the left corner tilted by side and saw people coming out of it bleeding there were around 10-12 people including small children jam packed inside. Immediately I stopped and talked to swift guy how it happened. He told that the sumo was going at 60 + kms and took turn at that speed which made the vehicle to loose control and spun in the opposite direction in two wheels and into the roadside gutter. Meanwhile my wife and her friend both are doctors were talking and trying to analyze the injuries if any major has happened to any one. Luckily no one was seriously injured.

The swift person was not ready to call 108 I don’t why, immediately I called 108 help line number and informed the same but none of the Ambulance near by was not available at that moment. And it was difficult give first aid at that moment since it was raining and there was no shelter and only 2 umbrellas were available at that moment. Both doctors checked them and told nothing serious had happened to any one. Stopped a 407 Canter and requested him to drop them to near by hospital which he agreed to do so. Left the place and informed the same at the Toll Gate, for which they told they are going to send a patrol car to the place. After half hour a call came from Police station asking about the incident and asked if any help is required. I explained what the situation is and told that if you could help a person who is staying with the vehicle and gave them his number.

This is another incident happened while returning to Bangalore on 13th June. It had happened on Tumkur - Chitradurga highway. A Maruti 800 tried to overtake a truck and hit the back of the truck. One person was injured in head, others were ok. But the car was out of shape. Ambulance and police were at the spot and assisting the process.

My condolences on this tragedy. Where exactly near Mannuthy this happened. Near Bypass or Junction ? My parents stay nearby.

Not sure fully but if clear attention is paid to the rear tires of the ill-fated Sumo, One can see how bad the condition of the tire is and coupled with that were the rains.

On NH4, The road is beautifully developed, especially from Dharwad exit all the way till Kagal checkpost passing Belgaum and Nippani but there are 2 small ghats where one needs to be very cautious (especially while it rains) since the road quality often tends one to drive faster than usual.

Just before approaching Belgaum, one has to descend over a few curves after a ghat (after Hirebagewadi Toll IIRC) and and I am guessing this must be that spot. The descent also adds to the increase in speed due to the momentum gained.

Overall, from my experiences on doing numerous Bangalore-Pune trips, the safest stretch has been Dharwad exit till Kagal. Even Nippani ghat witnesses rare accidents but those few which happened did make it to the news!!

A notorious stretch by far on NH4 with mixed lane discipline amongst truckers often forcing faster vehicles to commit the mistake of overtaking from the left (not sure in this case though).

In both the cases, glad to know that the occupants escaped with little/no injuries.

Kolhapur - Pune is full of mixed traffic during the day and chaotic and minor/major accidents are the norm of the day but post midnight, the drive gets tremendously safer with excellent lane discipline.

Looks like the impact was on the left side of the car and not head on. Must be doing insane speeds to make such a mess of a car.

I am happy about the authorities being alert at least.

Good to know nothing serious happened.

Recently, I came across two accidents spots- both involving Ford cars. 1 was a Fiesta- driver was at high speed and to save a biker went straight in a storm drain- escaped with minor injuries.

The other car was a ford ikon - pics attached. Dont know the plight of the driver/ occupants.
