Today at Richmond Circle, an Indicab trying to beat lights, hits the divider headon. Looks like he wiped off quite a bit of speed. Car spun and facing on wrong side of road. Repairable frontal damage

Er, if you do this on Gurgaon E-way, with due respect, it is illegal - even if you are on the lest of the left-most lane.

Legally speaking, 2- and 3-wheelers are supposed to be completely off the E-way and use the slip/service lanes till a bit beyond Grace Toyota. At least this used to be the case when I last travelled. Has the rule changed of-late?

You brought home an important point - it is the same in Hyderabad also. I checked specifically and this is what I found: Delhi Gurgaon Expressway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

• Elevated sections of the expressway will be open only for vehicles capable of attaining speeds of 80–100 km/h.
• 47 km (29 mi) of service roads for local and slow moving traffic.

Looks like the tipper (and of course bikers) had no business being on the road in the first place (if the accident happened on one of the elevated sections)

At Mumbai Pune Expressway, there is a small pathway duly demarcated for light and heavy vehicles on both sides. At this point, almost most of the climb ends so to say when travelling to Pune. So to say, the descent starts from this points when coming to Mumbai followed by a left blind curve. Most of the times some accidents happen.

A lorry was burning at the left most lane which could have happened a few hours back (smoke was still bellowing out). A policman was stopping all the vehicles and regulating traffic. A Zen, Honda City (brand new), Honda CRV were standing one behind the other in the middle lane. From that narrow curve a local lorry (which would carry containers) with some iron rods loaded came, gathered speed and hit the CRV, the City was rear ended and the same happened with Zen.

this occurred some time ago. But it still lingers in my mind because the total loss could have easily crossed Rs10L for the three vehicles put together. No scratches to any of the occupants of any of the vehicle but left an indelible mark which would be carried throughout their life.

Who is at fault? The policeman, the previous accident, or the persons involved in constructing road with such blind curve? I just leave these things to destiny but tighten up my driving skills further not only for myself but also for other road users.

As far as I know from logic and UK driving rules (or US for that matter), the guy who hits from behind is at fault. He is supposed to be always be in control of his car, by keeping safe distance. I would be surprised if IMV act says anything other than it. I am not proud of the fact that I did not read IMV, inspite of having Indian driving license since 20 plus years. Is IMV act available online?

I have always had similar thoughts, I have asked the same before. I am sure there must be something that we can do as Group.

1) Organise Road Awareness events in our respective areas / Colleges / Universities.
2) Talk to RTO's and get involved in the licensing, to ensure Teens don't get licensing easily until and unless they understand how to respect power.
3) Get involved with RTO department which issues Road Worthiness certificate, and if possible change the policies.
4) Report or ensure we take it up on ourself to push or move these stuck old vehicles to safety.

I know there is a limitation to what we can do. But even if we all members together do one activity in a month.. I think we can save one life each for sure.

A few years back, another similar case had happened over the Yeshwantpur Flyover in Bangalore when a TATA 407 Police Van was escorting visiting TN Chief Minister towards an exhibition center on Tumkur Road.
While the VVIP's car could easily negotiate the curve with an incline on the flyover, the TATA 407 wasnt so lucky and toppled on the flyover.

This was due to the fact that even the TATA 407 was tailing hard the high end car of the VVIP (at good speed) and couldnt safely negotiate the curve on the flyover.

Here comes the capability part (In both these cases).

It was again a bike accident (came to know from one guy there that the last accident was also a bike accident) and there were two guys on the bike. They were coming towards Mandovi signal and seems to have lost control and hit the divider infront of Purva Apartment (attaching the map). They were thrown out of the bike and one guy was on the other side of the road. One person was taken to hospital already by a good Samaritan it seems but the other guy who was on the other side of the road have already lost his life on the spot. The bike was a Yamaha R15, KL registration bike. It seems they were not wearing helmets. May his soul rest in peace.




Guys, if anyone driving or riding on this section, please be careful. Even though the road is wide it's not a very good surface and can unsettle a bike very easily. Please be careful and drive safe.

3 weeks It happened at Varkala beach Trivandrum , 2 people were in to practicing driving at Varkala helipad and all of sudden they lost control and fell down to beach. Both escaped with minor injuries.

Yesterday at Kothanalloor, Kottayam this KSRTC bus hit a tree and toppled while trying to give way for a Maruti 800. No casualities though. Pic from a Friend.

Sad to hear about the accident. But glad to know that the occupants were safe. I have seen a similar accident in Vizag 4 years back. That too was a Amby and all four occupants were safe.

This accident is reported in today's Malayalam daily. The deceased guy is from Tripunithura, Kochi. He and his friend were returning home after dinner when the accident occurred.

Thats an old, early 1950's design.The first Morris Oxford Series III was introduced in 1954.It has no crumple zones, has not undergone any crash test and is supposed to be heading for a very bad NCAP star rating. And airbags in the Ambassador ?? After its indiginisation, the quality of the car has progressively deteriorated.
But all said and done, the car saved its occupants who emerged with minor injuries!
