Even I got this thought of seat belt when I first saw the pic! Its amazing that even in this situation where the Swifted dzire distracts us, we TBHPians look for such minor yet important aspects of safety. "Birds of same feather flock together"

Well yes, other thing to confirm that he is wearing a seat belt is that the impression of it upon his right chest, one can clearly see the seat belt pressing against his chest region and as vina sir said, right next to the right collar a black seat belt is visible.

Seatbelts not worn in both cars

Apologize for going OT

This is not only but also you are accusing Laxman of something he didn't do. How can you be sure from the angle the picture was taken that he is not wearing the seat belt? Still at least to me the seat belt is very much visible.

Let's stop this seatbelt discussion now - we are only cluttering up the thread.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Hello guys!

Its interesting how the discussion moved on to me!

But for the record I would like to state 'I was wearing the seatbelt'

Actually, I can safely say that even for the shortest of journeys whether it be in the front or rear seat of the car, I always wear the seat-belt. Always have.

I am a big advocate of road safety.

In fact, my kiddos who are 2 yrs + now have always been strapped into their car seat properly before we start.

Also, I agree with Vina. We are cluttering the thread.

He wanted to scale it down a little further to a nano or something i guess , on a serious note, he is lucky that the car was still in running condition.

May be hit two vehicles (or a vehicle and a pole) in the same accident - e.g. a car cuts in front, bus swerves, hits the car and then hits a truck/pole

Reason for duct tapes all round?
Think they wanted to hide the name of the travels. There have been many accidents recently accounting many lives.

I believe it may not be a pole bcos if it was a pole, the damage would be uniform on the left side of the bus and not restricted to the top left.

Might have hit something that might be protruding out of the vehicle in the front and then to prevent further damage, might have swayed to his right and hit something which ripped the bumper and the grill too.

Its scary to see so many Volvo accidents off late especially in light of the fact that most folks prefer the first row in a Volvo bcos of leg room.

Edit: Naveen, most of the bus operators quickly conceal the name by painting it in black so that no one can make out the operator and hence prevent a bad name. In this case, looks like they had lot of time to go around duct taping it.

It might be a public service to remove such covering up!

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Came across an accident warning board which itself is waiting for an accident to be created, rather a catalyst for an accident. Motorbikes behind the board gets completely masked from the view of drivers coming through the main road.

News media indulges in cover-ups too. They never report the make of the car when it is involved in a horrible smash-up. Negative publicity for their sponsor advertisers is avoided at the expense of public's and consumers right to know and be informed. Of course they make up for it with a little posturing about saving saving society from itself. etc etc.

Appears to be the Volvo is carrying scars from two battles.
The right side damages occurred earlier, it is presumed, because there is an add on light which perhaps would have been mounted temporarily. The left side damages would have happened at Aroor.
The tapping are to mask the identity.
