SX4 was hit on passenger side's pillar.

That is an area where crumple zones do not play any part. Impact was directly passed on to things like windshield. Windshield has localized damage near the pillar.

Just an update. The accident occurred at around 0130hrs on sunday morning. The boy who passed away(owner) was apparently the passenger. The guy driving doesn't remember what happened! Like Duh!!!
I strongly believe the seat belt would have saved him! Also found out that he stays barely a mile away from my place.

Mangalore: Car Accident Claims Engineering Student's Life

P.S. The Aveo accident isnt related to the sx4 indecent.

I am confused - you are saying that the boy wasn't driving, but the link you have quoted says he was the driver .

Have you quoted the report of one accident while writing about another (asking because as you said, there are two accidents here)

As far as i know, the boy wasn't driving. Its a coverup. The article even says the car was very badly damaged whereas the pics tell a different story!

Got this from a friend. Range Rover gets teased by Alto.

But how is this even possible? Look at the number plates.

I just saw this pic in FB. And some guys claim that Dubai regd cars can be brought in for 6 months. One guy also went ahead and posted that this car has been charged 400 AED by Dubai police for the accident [for not wearing seat belts] !!

I have no idea whats going on in those posts! I guess LHD cars can be imported [temporarily] only for the consulate guys or is it NOT possible at all?

Whatever it is, I am sure that is going to be on FAT bill for the RR guy! Or should I say the Alto guy will have to sell / lease the car to pay the damages.

I think cars can be imported for a short period under the carnet scheme. Experts can confirm. Sorry to go off topic

The news about this accident is in today's news paper. The guy is from Cochin and is doing his engineering in Mangalore.

May his soul RIP.

I think one can bring down a LHD vehicle to the country for a specified matter of time. One can see a yellow Hummer H2 in the movie Shaitan which is a LHD with US number plates!

There must be some sort of permit that allows. Experts can confirm.

The Rangie seems to have modified bumpers and grille(minimum). Which is probably the reason why the bumper has sustained so much damage with what seems like a pretty mild accident.

The people in an Omni have little chance of survival in a head on collision like that. Quoted from the article "Harris, Ummer and Siraj, who were in the front of the van, suffered injuries to their heads and faces." Three people in the front of an Omni?

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Mandatory speed limiters are really called for on the heavy vehicles in our country. Even if it's made mandatory now it would be a couple of years (whilst the older vehicles get phased off the roads) before this comes in play on more than 90% of the vehicles. The other things that's sorely missing on most heavy vehicles is the low barriers at the front and back, even if there are barriers installed it's mostly some shoddy work which would do more harm then good. Almost all our cars nowadays are tested for frontal impact, without a good low barrier, whether you are in a merc saloon or a BMW saloon, you gotta be very lucky not to have major injuries to the persons in the front seats cos the car just slides under the truck, and the impact is usually on the top of the bonnets and the A-pillar, when you hit the front axle of the truck it gets transferred to the front of the car.
When will our authorities open their eyes ?
