It seems like he was in a hurry to avail of the discounts announced by Honda! Where in Pune/ which area is this?
It is interesting to note that only the front is damaged with not even a scratch elsewhere (at least on the visible side). Late braking at high speed perhaps?

+100. Scorpios are most rashly driven vehicles on our roads. When I said the same in a post a few months back, some Scorp owners were offended. I did not say then and I do not say now that all scorps are driven rashly but more than any other vehicle, it is Scorp. And if it is cab or if it belongs to goon/politician type then heaven help you. He will be flashing lights and honking non-stop and will be glued to your car's rear bumper, swerving from right to left to right to somehow overtake you. They do this in most irritating manner and they just fly through even crowded built-up areas and intersections. The way they drive, always I wonder how so fewer of them die.

Actually in Hyderabad I find that most Scorpios are (relatively) well behaved - Innovas, Sumos and Qualises are bad to worse. Perhaps because most Scorpios are white number plates.

But, barring the exotics, the worst are actually indicabs.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

This once upon a time Honda City was bought to Marine Drive Police Station this morning. From the initial impression, looks like it crashed into an electric pole head on at a very high speed! (Well thats what I think). No idea what happened to the occupants.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

There was a massive accident on on the Bombay-Pune freeway, just after the first exit for Lonavala going towards Bombay. From what my Shivneri driver told me and going by what I saw, it involved an oil tanker and a Scorpio going towards Bombay.

The Scorpios front was completely totalled, and the oil tanker was lying on the other carriageway, flipped. There was a huge oil spill too.

Apparently, the driver of the Scorpio lost his life. The driver of my bus also gave a very graphic description of how the victims/survivors were pulled out of the mangled remains.

The Scorpio involved in the accident:

The backup of vehicles:
Accidents in India | Pics & Videos-img_0130.jpg

It happened at about noon today. The backup is due to a crane just arriving on the site and blocking the whole carriageway. According to my bus driver, till about 1400, there was restricted flow of traffic around the tanker. God knows how they let them go through the oil.

Also, some idiots who got to know about this accident thought it was a great idea to go on the wrong side towards Pune. They put their headlights on, and were seen driving on the shoulder.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

This had happened on the Tumkur Bangalore road just after the nice road junction. Spotted it on the way back from the Tbhp drive to Devrayandurga hills. Stopped to wait for the other Bhpians and also to click these!

Apparently (and thankfully) Nobody was killed in this accident. Was surprised at the extent of damage on (and also caused by) the truck compared with the KSRTC bus!

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

This i20 fell in a huge storm-water drain inside the IIT Bombay campus near the old swimming pool. The driver was learning and could not control the car. The car was travelling in this same direction, and apparently could not turn in time. There is next to no traffic inside the campus.

This drain is really a nasty one. There have been three instances previously that cars have ended up in it, not at this location, but about 300m away from this spot. I know of a Santro, a Sumo and an auto rikshaw who have landed in this drain in the last 10 years or so. And, the drain is not at all close to the road. There is also a neat footpath which is about 3/4th of a feet high. It really takes something to put your car there.

This car was lying on NDA Pashan Road. There was Police Sumo parked ahead of this which was hit from the front.

Read it in the papers today morning. The scorpio was travelling towards Mumbai and the driver lost control and jumped the divider to hit the Oil Tanker. Definitely one more case of speeding on the xpressway. 3 people lost their lives and 2 are in the ICU.

Those are some of the worst crashes. All at the TATA-Fiat service centre? The Sumo Victa and the grey Safari seem to be in the worst shape. Did you see the front left tyre of the safair? The top layer seems to be peeled off!!

The Sumo Grande is a total loss. The impact would have been strong I suppose. But these workshop people should not keep these cars in open. They should keep these cars covered.

Must have been a very very horrific crash. The oil tanker was resting on one of its sides and pointing directly towards Mumbai . I dont think the Scorpio had enough momentum to practically rotate the tanker.

In a separate accident, I also saw a trailer with a container that had departed from the road and ended up in a ditch near the old reversing station at Khandala.

@WAG7: Yes, the Scorpio was completely smashed, but only from the front. Initially as I approached it from the rear, it looked like some vehicle had just stopped to have a look. As we came near, could make out that it was involved in the accident.

Saw this jack knifed trailer in July last year:

Notice the Shivneri driver looking in the LRVM to get into the middle lane after a failed attempt to overtake the HP Gas tanker .

Wonder what made this Logan taxi blaze up like this on that wet cool day...guess it just lost its cool (no offenses)

Fortunately, the occupants were seen safely standing roadside talking on mobile. Couldn't stop to check out or do anything. Seemed like going for a total loss looking at the blaze.
