This is really tragic. But the truth is that one should look after their tyres as it is the only contact with the road.

And then .. you will see many instances on NH where the center concrete divider is chipped away and removed with a fair amount of determination by locals who want to take an easy cut across to the other side or a u-turn.

It happened in Nandigudda. How fast can you go there? Whenever I have to drive in that area, I cannot exceed 40 kmph. The roads are narrow and rough (due to concrete), there are curves, and most importantly, the maniacs called city bus drivers.

A Mysore-registered car, so in all probability, he was not familar with the road conditions in Mangalore.

Some of the comments in this article are hilarious. You can see the number of misinformed people in this country. It's sad, actually. Makes you cringe inside. But then you laugh it off!

Horrific end to the road rage- thats all i can say. This SUV is taken to be one of the sturdiest ones in India and accident casualities are considered to be rare in this- but even this wont help if the driver decides to rip off in an Indian road. I do not understand as what might have been the urgency of the people - to reach so fast?

If one is not familiar with any road, he/she would not be driving at insane speeds in the first place. Considering the time the accident took place and the occupants were back from a movie only shows that it was a case of young blood in an over confident mood. May the sould RIP!

This Montero had a bad fall. Fortunately, the driver was wearing seatbelt and suffered only a minor injury.

Saw an accident while on my way to Cochin this morning, near Chalakkudy. Two trucks were involved in the accident - one had overturned and was resting on it's side while the other was on top of the divider. The truck on the divider has extensive damage to the front. I'm not sure if this was a case of driving on the wrong lane or if one of the trucks rear-ended the other. No idea about casualties. Did not take pictures since my mobile phone camera is useless in low light (this was spotted at around 6:15am).

there was a one helluva traffic jam this morning on the IRR and i think i know the reason why. while crossing the Ejipura signal, i noticed an auto parked on the side with its backside crushed. a little further i saw a beige i20 with its front and rear damaged; impact enough to crush the hatch door and completely dislodge the front bumper and headlights. i'm thinking it was at least a three vehicle pile-up, but couldn't find the third one.

anyone have more information on this?

Images of Scorpio and Montero posted in last few posts are example of huge draw backs of SUVs in terms of safety:

1. SUVs prone to topple in heavy usage of steering/brake in panic situations.
2. Pillars can't weigh the body weight when those are toppled.

Cars are more safer then the SUVs in both of these situations but those can't handle collisions with "Indian trucks".

Guys - mods - time for a new thread/discussion on airbags!!

How can there be so many incidents of a merc-s class, 1 fortuner, 1 scorpio (looks fully loaded with Airbags), 1 montero above - all totalled with no air bags deployed!! Is this a new trend!! Or does automobile makers needs to rethink the sensor positioning at least for Indian markets!

One probable reason might be: No seat belts. The airbags do not deploy in case the seat belt is not worn. I see no other reason for so many such mishaps/failures.
