IMO this is better than the road dividers which are not a match for our heavy vehicle or can be broken down to suit the local people to cross the road. The car in this picture could have easily hit an oncoming vehicle if not for this drain. Replace the car with a heavy vehicle and you have a catastrophe.

Not trying to rub it in, but the moral of the story as I see it:

Having a very good control gives the confidence to go at a little higher speed than advisable, but might not help in all situations. And when it doesn't, not only those extra 2 minutes that one is trying to gain by doing that extra 20KMPH for a 5KM ride vanishes, but one also spends an additional 3 hours facing harassment from a hostile mob even if the other party in the scene is the one who should take a bigger blame. Not to mention the huge and unfair financial losses that accompany the incident and a sense of disappointment in ruining one's dear vehicle.

So, drive safe guys. Expect idiots all around you when you are on the wheel (or on the handle) and give some additional factor of safety; especially at nights when the roads are relatively empty and a lot of those who are still on the road feels they can speed-up/take liberty to violate traffic rules a bit. Monsoons, delayed as they are in Bangalore, are around the corner and will be harsh. It doesn't hurt to be cautious.

Completely agree here. Its good to leave a few minutes early or OK to reach a few later rather than spending unnecessary time on the way giving opportunity to others to screw your happiness. In some cases, its good/safe to be at extremes (extremely safe or extreme fun!!).
However IMO, this looks off-topic, dont think this was any attempt of mugging here, it was just a bad experience with some local/influential folks that may have sounded like it. Its more of an accident I guess.

Most of us are looking for an opportunity to contribute to the society a.k.a social service. Unless there is an active initiative already in place by TBhp, assembling a team to help BTP police the roads might be a good idea. I'm not sure if they'll let us do that but is worth trying. We get to witness the ground realities and will enable us to help fellow members and other users of the road.

The banked design of road divider is very common on the interstate highways in the USA.

Behold, our beloved JVLR Gandhi Nagar FLO has another surprise. Not much being done yet after hours of holding up road to get this monster off and open the road. A few traffic cops and a small tow-er at front seem to help nothing.

It is the cops duty for sure, but a good citizen also has a duty to his conscience to help accident victims and be a good samitarian. Remember, many a times the injured are not at fault, but even those at fault must get medical assistance.

I was once looking for some patient in Jaslok,I saw an entry in the register for a patient where it was written admitted by the police.

Rubbish and utter callousness is the attitude of the authorities when dealing with accident victims. I have read for sure that cops are not to harass samaritans when they bring accident victims to a hospital. They may take a statement, and not call them again. And all hospitals are to admit the injured and give medical treatment.
Now, as you can see, people are not sure what is to be dne and how they get involved. Why can the authorities not loudly and clearly broadcast the rules for this sort of scenario? Every fool knows that timely treatment saves life, so public should be clearly informed of procedures and consequences. An informed public will be more helpful and can counter any greedy opportunist. I see an opportunity for a social awareness campaign. Everyone wishes to reduce fatalities, here is an opportunity.

Medical assistance is a right even if one is at fault. But there should be some provision that the injured can be given first aid at the nearest hospital or even a clinic. The private clinics/hospitals should provide first aid to the patient till the police arrives and then they can always be shifted to government hospital (if the rule says so) once out of danger.

Yes. The NICE road has been designed according to international standards.

The first pic is of one such interstate highway in New York State (Pic taken by me)
The second and third pics are of NICE road ( got them from web).
I feel NICE has more resemblance to the US highways than any of our NH roads designed by NHAI.

This is a biggest question, still remains unanswered, when are we going to get some traffic sense. Like you said, passangers along with the driver should really be concerned about traffic rules, unless we dont see and feel that 'whole world is following something that is correct and I'm the only stupid here' things are not going to change, I know this will take long time but we have to start somewhere. We are going to set a great example for others and our kids, who are going to follow us - lets at least lead a better generation for a better future.

Of late, a lot of people really have started ignoring the most basic "keep left" rule. I wish the cops would start strictly enforcing the basic traffic rules?
