Agreed KiloAlpha. Further more, in India, most of the smaller / cheaper vehicles fall short of small overlap frontal protection. These vehicles crush-zone structures are almost non-existent. The impact is focused on the front wheel & transmission and in most cases the wheel is forced rearward into the footwell resulting in major lower body injuries - as can be seen with the alto in these images. I doubt even premium hatches are built to protect. Except for the Polo Maybe.

That one third of all accidents figure is of accidents in the USA, In india however, more common accidents are due to stuff like lack of driver training and poor road design.

This is due to the lack of underrun protection on the rear end of the truck, even if you were to crash an S-Class into such a truck at the same speed, you would have the same outcome as in a completely crushed A pillar.

It seems KA transport department has started a crackdown on buses without emergency exits:

This drive is supposed to last a week, and is not going to spare SRTC buses from the neighbouring states either.

Though, this is worrying:

Another move to fill the coffers. All that the RTO sleuths are looking at is whether the bus has a small-ish door on the RHS, behind the rearmost axle. Last night I saw a KaSRTC Volvo B7R in a pathetic condition (no emergency exit, emitting black smoke and a lot of patchwork) on Hosur road going outside the city. At the same time, they aren't sparing TN and KL STU buses in the name of not having a dedicated exit door while these buses have a large rear glass that can be broken and used as an emergency exit. Talk about double standards and what not.

Somebody headed straight into a roundabout. It is big road and the roundabout is quite big too but still this guy rammed into it.

I hope KL and TN RTOs start the crackdown on KA-SRTC buses that are non-compliant with regulations including pollution norms, speed limiter usage and emergency exits as per the KL or TN standards.

End of the day, if all RTC buses improve due to fear of neighbouring RTOs, bus users across all states would still benefit from it.

Why skip AP and MH? And the little ones, GA & PY. Let them all "crack down" on each other.

After all we have seen the carnage caused by little or no enforcement; now let us see some good competitive enforcement too.

Hi all, While coming back from Meerut saw this accident in which a Truck over turned and fell in the field in order to save a on-coming vehicle. This mishap happened today afternoon at Meerut By-pass (The road that connects Meerut City to Delhi Road). Thankfully, the LPG cylinders loaded in it did not burst otherwise a disaster beyond comprehension would have occurred. The occupants of the truck were seriously injured in the mishap and people were trying to take them out from the wreckage.
