Read about an accident in Deccan Herald today on HD Kote road near Mysore. 5 women died travelling in a MUV which lost control and over turned hitting a tree in the process. I have recently traveled on that highway and I am not surprised because the roads are good but they are curvy, someone who does not judge his speed on the curves especially in a MUV is bound to loose control.

Good to see the airbags deployed and overall build seems to have saved the occupants. I read in my owner manual that airbag system needs to be cleaned/serviced every 10 years to ensure that it's working as expected. I was wondering how many owners and service centers know about this? And which means many long running cars may have a potentially non functioning airbag system? Good to see the one in Skoda is designed to work for years - reliably.

Horrible! Those logs were not balanced properly on the truck, tilting the CG towards the right side which made the truck roll over while it swerved. Some of those logs were also overhanging.

Truly horrific accident. Overloading of the truck let to it's doom.

Assuming that the truck driver didn't survive, he was killed by ignorance. His own and whoever else was responsible for the loading.

I can appreciate this, but children are children, and I guess that an unlocked car is a hazard, especially in a tropical climate. Fridges used to have door locks: children used to get trapped in dumped fridges.

It's also true that parents are responsible --- but they left the children alone.

How, exactly, could it happen? Apparently the car had been parked for several years, so very possible that the battery was dead. So how could the doors lock, but not unlock? Doesn't the physical interior door handle override the lock? I don't know.

One of the children was 10: one would think that a 10-yr-old could understand car door handles, with or without locks.

Slightly related: my VW Polo is the only car I have ever had where the horn does not work without the ignition turned on. I think this is a safety hazard (what if a passenger needs to alert another vehicle when the driver, plus keys, is away?) Most kids would know to stand on the horn if they needed help ...but if the battery was flat?

It's a mystery as well as a tragedy. Just musing.

Lost control? If someone doesn't know how to drive around curves then they don't have control in the first place.

Curves don't kill anyone: speed does.

Luckily, driver sensed there was a fire and got himself and all the passengers out of the car. This was an Innova that was barely a year old.

Saw this accident yesterday morning while traveling from Krishnagiri to Vellore on NH. Tyre marks from where the car has skidded & reflector hit by the car seems that the car has traveled at a very high speed

There was bigger one on the same section. A KSRTC Airavath rammed into a container. The front part was literally gone.

Happend to see that accident too, front of the bus was found to ripped off and new cars were found to be damaged in the container lorry. Unable to take photos, as I was travelling with co passengers in my car...

This accident happened on the way to mekedatu on 15th august. The rider's head was saved by LS2 helmet.
The rider was speeding and lost control and rammed into the bus as per locals. But the buses are also driven in a reckless manner. Can insurance be claimed on a bike with TC plates?

Woah! Scary pictures! I'm glad the rider was wearing helmet and is alive.

Kanakpura road being a two lane undivided road sees a lot of accidents on a daily basis.

I believe if the bike was registered, insured and the owner was only waiting for the number, then yes insurance can be claimed.

Interesting thought Akhilash. I noticed that the first insurance policy on our car was issued on the day the road tax was paid but is effective from three days earlier (which was a day before the date of delivery). The policy also does not specify the registration number of the vehicle (it just says 'new').

^^ I don't think claiming insurance will be an issue. Insurance is issued before vehicle is send to RTO from dealership, hence any new vehicle on the road will be having a valid insurance.

Spotted a completely burnt and charred Scorpio on the road between Masinagudi and Ooty with 2-3 hairpin bends to spare. Couldn't stop to take photos since the road was very narrow.

Looks like the bangalore-chennai NH is slowly turning into a death trap. On one side we have excellent 6 lane roads and on the other side pathetic stretch from kanchipuram onwards.

Owwww!! Scary accidents all - truck, Innova, Beat and the new Duke. A sad end to a brand new Duke, even before it could hit the streets much. The truck accident was also a scary one. I see many PMT buses here in Pune tilted to one side and I always wonder what would happen if such a heavy vehicle would tilt and fall on its side in a busy street. The Duke accident teaches us to wear a helmet at all times; but whats the use if the rider is speeding ?
