re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

According to the DC article, the air bags didn't deploy and they have put is as a "mystery". Did a 2008 Safari EX come with airbags and does that have a dependency with seat belts for activation? In any case, airbags wouldn't have saved him if he were not wearing seat belts. RIP.

Also, going by the damage and the intrusion into the passenger cabin, even if the driver had worn seat belts and the airbags had indeed deployed, it would still be doubtful if the driver would have survived. Adding picture of the damaged vehicle from Hindu article:

A safari EX didn't have airbags and ABS back then.

Who could imagine that a horse that went berserk could damage an Octy so much? This happened yesterday at Basheerbagh, below the flyover, close to Babukhan building.

Wow! The horse climbed up onto the car it seems, as per the report. 500 kg of muscle and bone can certainly inflict plenty of damage. And I thought bulls went berserk on seeing red. Do horses go berserk when they see this colour?

Don't know, just asking/suggesting.
The passenger airbag pops out from the top of the LH panel. After deflating too, the root of the airbag still will remain in that place. The drivers side airbag will not be visible but the passenger airbag will be seen in all cars since they have a top facing airbag exit door.

See another accident for example here http://images.mid-day.com/2013/aug/Honda-city.jpg

We can spot the passenger airbag. Observation of the finer detail counts

If you observe the bonnet , it looks like the car went under something, aka, got wedged . In which case, the airbag sensors would not have detected the impact and hence did not fire

Side to Head collision of my Innova.

Had a side to head collision of my Innova with a black 1st gen Innova while returning back from work. Because the speed of both vehicles was low (20kmph) and because all were buckled up there was no damage to occupants in both vehicles.

But Amana Toyota Malappuram is taking a really long time to repair. The accident occurred on 19th November and they say they might return after 2 more weeks (total time taken >30 days).

I have bumper to bumper insurance, and I have to shelve only Rs 2000/-. They have given the estimate to the insurance company (Iffco-Tokio) as a whopping Rs 3,35,125/- plus tax.

I cannot understand how the left side of both cars got damaged so much. Isn't this the kind of damage that would be seen when cars drive on the right side of the road and have a front overlapping collision?

The Innova being a body on a ladder chassis(and top lighter, as opposed to top heavy of the sumo, safari, scorpio, et al), such high bills are really shocking.

I was taking a right turn, he was coming straight. His Innova's front left side hit my car's left front side. Then it slid on to both left doors and ended at rear left tyre damaging both the alloy and bursting the rear tyre.

They are replacing a lot of things, including rear axle, shock absorbers, rear left alloy tyre, running board, both doors etc.

Luckily everything including alloy and tyre is covered under insurance.

If I got it done outside perhaps it would have costed me <1 lakh INR, but quality of work, availability of spares to outside dealers would be a big question mark.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

This happened some 3-4 months ago on NH17 near Ankola in Karnataka. Posting here just to show how unsafe is Maruti Omni in case of a head on collision. The driver of Omni tried to avoid a pothole and the result was this.
