AFAIK, it is the nut behind the wheel that causes most accidents! The trick is to drive within the limits of the vehicle.

Erm, if not obvious what I was alluding to, please check: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_error#Other

Mods - please don't merge this with my previous post, I'd like to keep that joke intact without spoilers

Oh My Gosh! I was seriously analyzing the structure of the Steering wheel to understand where the nut would be present ..
Took me a couple of seconds to comprehend what that NUT is !

I was wondering how a nut can be present behind the steering !

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

I've received shocking news of my neighbour's 20 year-old son passing away in a car accident on ORR late last night. I believe he was among a group of 5 that were on an i20 and headed towards home. The front passenger's had serious injuries, but two in the rear seat expired on the spot. Will post details after going home.
I believe he was to go back to Manipal tomorrow.

Sad to hear this news. My commiserations.

Why is it that all of us assume that accidents happen to others remote and removed from us? Let's us spread safety awareness. This thread inspires me to analyze and learn lessons.

Accident on Bangalore-Mysore road. Expect a minor traffic hiccough.

The Swift rammed a stationary Eicher. The driver of the Swift is injured and was being transferred to a hospital. Luckily, he was the sole occupant of the car.
Pics and info shared by my friend Sanjeev.

Wow! The Swift really does crumble like a wrapper after you eat a chocolate.
I have hardly seen a Swift that is involved in an accident that has not been crumbled to glory.
The Polos and Puntos on the other hand generally hold up well. But that doesn't leave a dent on Swift''s sales!

I believe all cross overs had toppled before launch. Is this a marketing gimmick or for real. I feel people behind these so called mini SUV s get a feeling that they are driving a proper SUV. And that mind set is creating this issue.

These crossovers handle infinitely better than SUV's, so by that logic - we should see more SUV's toppled over.
It might be more due to the fact that everyone expects them to handle like hatches and sedans (from which prospective buyers are upgrading) - and pushing them too far.

Isn't crumpling a good thing? It is, as a matter of fact a paramount safety feature in any car. Crumple zones are designed to absorb the crash energy and deform themselves thereby reducing the amount of energy transferred to the cabin and it's occupants and also prevent violent deceleration.

On another note I do second your opinion about the build quality of Polo, Punto and other European cars but I'd like to emphasize again that these cars too have got crumple zones and they too crinkle up nicely when they confront adequate amount of force on impact.

The HCV is on the RHS while the car has a damaged LHS ! He might have been trying to cut across traffic at high speeds only to hit this truck on the RHS .

Yes, crumpling to absorb the energy is good absolutely, and but definitely not to THAT extent
The body's passenger cabin structure should at least remain somewhat safe which is sadly not the case here. This gets crushed above and beyond that.
I hope SCross proves its worth though.

Crumplimg zones and passenger shell can take only so much. Shell will remain intact only up to a point. Even a tank will end up squished if you put enough energy into impact.

This again looked like "loose" nut job. Carelessness or inattention.

Make that 'just launched' 'crossovers' 'crossing over'.

Seriously though, it's becoming too much of a coincidence now. Every mini SUV/crossover crashes soon after launch and pictures are circulated all across social media.
