Hope you get my point and re-think your statement + point of view.

Road safety is linked closely with common sense, experience and physics. Most people don't even believe a thin strap across their chest can save their life, let alone understand the dynamics of other things.

This is why awareness and education is so incredibly important if we want less people to die on our roads.
Guilty as charged Sir!

The divider wall was about one feet high and 10 feet across in width. Luckily, there were no vehicles in front and behind , which probably made me laid back and attempt something stupid.

As for luck, well thats why I had written "It's all about learning from that hindsight provided you were lucky to escape in the first place.".

Dear Arunphilip - hello to you. Yes, you are absolutely correct. For today's customers, bling grilles, garish wheel-caps and opposite traffic blinding light bars are more important than vehicle dynamics and safety! That's India! And that's why there is a saying in Hindi: "kehta bhi deewana aur sunta bhi deewana"! If that's what India customers want, that's what India customers will get! Who cares what tires came with the car!

I hope that at least now, some semblance of good sense will prevail and our powers-that-be get this expressway right! This is the least we can expect. So many people have died, dammit! .

Best regards,

I guess no car can withstand such impacts, even the safest. The impact was so huge, it broke through the front axle of the bus. I guess, overtaking went wrong at really high speeds (possibly 100+ kmph).

No further proof needed on the density of mass for these rolls. It has managed to break the loading bay into pieces:

You don't know how the accident happened, but consider it an indication of bad build quality?

Oh...

Its not about the build quality; its about the quality of driving ,

Any car for that matter

Does these pics belong to the same accident? If so, I am surprised that the windscreen of the bus is intact but the innova has been totally ripped off.

In the first pic, it looks like the trailer has climbed over the Creta

This is supposedly a National Highway (NH45), but in reality is just a 1-lane each-way road. An Innova coming from Kollam hit a KSRTC superfast headon - 4 fatalities in the Innova reported (unconfirmed). The driver of the Innova apparently dozed off. The KSRTC driver tried avoiding the hit, but could not - possibly because the road is narrow and nowhere else to move away to.

My wife passed that way today morning on her way to work and was too disturbed seeing the condition of the vehicles involved. She said the front (engine-bay + front passeneger cabin) of the Innova does not exist anymore. The front wheels of the bus were detached. Both of which seem to indicate the high speed & impact of the crash.

It is disheartening to hear of so many lives lost in accidents daily. And makes one worried too about long-distance driving. There was a time 10-15 years ago, when I would just jump into the car after work and drive Chennai-Kerala through the night (14 - 16 hours). Today I hesitate to think of doing such a drive even during the daytime.

I think the pics I posted above are from the same accident 'supremeBaleno' posted 2 days back.

A 'reactive' measure taken by the police resulted in catching a whopping 267 underage drivers in a single day!

That is a very good response taken by the Traffic Police, but what i fail to understand is why they have to wait for doing these 'reactive checks' until something this bad happens. It looks more like a stunt to calm the media and the public and to show that the traffic police are 'doing something' about these things. Give a week, and all will be back to square one. The only thing that can prevent these is the change in the public attitude, which i feel will not change any time soon.

Who is stopping them from drinking, get a cab for crying out loud. How hard can that be? It is cause of these imbeciles, law abiding people like me can't hang out at our favorite cafes cause the police have closed them down (restricted service) due to the recent events.

Pretty unfair fight, as it seems the Innova has dived under the bus, and come into contact with the bus' solid metal chassis...

But jeez the damage on the Innova is still shocking; which makes me wonder:

If you look at the 2nd photo, you can see a similar bus in the background. But other than that, it does look like a different setting.

Here are the more pictures and details about the Innova accident.

The front portion of the car was completely damaged in the collision and the rescuers have to cut a portion of the car to take Aju out of the vehicle
Damage to Innova seems to have caused by the above reason, rather completely due to collision.

Yes, while commenting on the damage taken by a vehicle, most people tend to forget that rescue personnel will have to cut and break the doors, glass and whatever stands between the victims and them.

Normally, when someone had to load such heavy objects, they make sure the weight rests on the axle. The above example looks like a filthy job.
