Scary. I have seen this happen with a car towing a caravan on a British motorway. As many of my childhood holidays were in our own towed caravan, I knew, from my father's teaching, about this risk. As soon as I saw the caravan begin to oscillate, I braked and fell back (and turned on my hazard warning lights: in my view, an excellent example of correct, non-stationary use: this was one huge hazard happening ahead!).

As feared, the situation very quickly got worse and the car and caravan came to a stop, side-on, in the middle of the three-lane motorway, thankfully upright. I was able to pass by slowly and safely. I can't say what happened behind me after that, but I never saw any incident on the British news, so suspect that other traffic was also able to take avoiding action. I don't recall the speeds (70MPH limit on British motorways, oft flouted so that 80 or 90 MPH is common: I think it may be lower, perhaps 50, for towing) but I do remember the white, fear-filled faces inside the car.

Another possibility would have been to stop, hazards on, before the vehicle. Might have been helpful --- but I was not prepared to take the risk.

I never did any towing. Quite likely I never will. Whilst I recall my father's warning, I don't remember if there is any way of correcting this fishtailing once it starts. Like the incident in the video, the caravan thing happened in seconds: not much thinking time available. Any truck drivers here that know?

Fishtailing, and then something like jackknifing.

Trailers are more prone to this, and especially if too much weight is placed towards the back of the trailer.

The weight in the trailer should be distributed so that it is heavier at the front.

Jokes aside, I really hope there were no casualties as injuries are a given in such an accident. Any more update on what seems like a high speed collision that has involved multiple vehicles?

Summary: Drunk Scorpio at high speeds was the instigator - crashed into a WagonR which apparently then jumped off the bridge (driver thankfully unhurt), and the Scorpio which was broken down on the middle of the flyover saw a Superb, Tanker, Dumper, and an i10 crash into it thereafter.

Looking at the pics, the Superb is totalled! Happy that there were no casualties!

Better lighting, safe driving, and maintaining a distance would have definitely reduced the casualties IMO.

I hate to be that person and apologize for nitpicking. But I often see mix up of the term 'casualty' in place of 'fatality' in this thread. Casualty can mean either dead or injured. So even a minor injury will mean there was a casualty.

Just quoting the description from Wikipedia here (emphasis mine):

A casualty is a person who is killed, wounded or incapacitated by some event; the term is usually used to describe multiple deaths and injuries due to violent incidents or disasters. It is sometimes misunderstood to mean "fatalities", but non-fatal injuries are also casualties.

A man had bought a used Honda city a week ago. His father suffered from heart attack one day and they rushed towards hospital with 5 people on board.

A tyre burst (why this is occurring very frequently now days!) happened and car lost the balance.

After a few tumble and throwing the bodies up to 100m, it collided in a bus.

5 casualties happened.

My goodness. Horribly rash entry onto a main road. It almost seemed like he was out of control for some reason and not just reckless. Either way, some of these jokers need to be permanently debarred from being behind a wheel.

IMHO these drivers should be given the maximum punishment possible.Only when the punishment meets the crime will there be some improvement in driving habits, otherwise people never learn.

In the police investigation, this could end up as a simple "brake failure" resulting in an accident.
