IIRC, in all the super car accidents reported recently in this thread, the occupants walked out of the car even without a scratch and the pedestrians/ other road users were usually the casualties. It has turned out to be quite different this time.

The statement in bold indicates that the driver wasn't wearing seatbelts and was thrown out of the car and died on road!

Very sad news. Shocked that the driver of such a powerful car, or any car for that matter, failed to buckle up. Fate i guess.

I had seen an orange Lembo many a times zooming through BRT and some times through Bus Corridor itself (even daytime). I daily drive through this stretch. The accident spot is really tricky for an average car at 60KMPH. Then what about a super car at 150+KMPH.

There is also an undulation on road at start of that spot. I think he initially lost control there. At that speed he could easily bottomed there. I am driving thorough this stretch for last two years and the BRT authority is not keen on repairing that undulation, and one at Siri Fort crossing too

Anyway let the soul of this young man rest in peace. Praying for his family.

Guys, please drive safe. Please be aware of our car's limit as well as the roads we drive on.

Shocked at the sorry state of the car and the untimely death of the 26 year old driver... But what was he doing driving it at whatever speed (250 looks unlikely, but 100 - 150 - on public roads in a city?), without seat belts? Now some more introspection and criticism will come from media ala the BMW cases for the next few days and then it will all be forgotten.

However, this brings us to a bigger question: (going slightly off topic here)

As sales of supercars & hypercars in India rise, it is high time that these car manufacturers introduce their Advanced Driving Training Courses alongwith selling their cars. These courses should be made mandatory and not an option with every vehicle sale.
Ferrari, Lambo, Bugatti et al all of their own advanced driving courses and I am sure the prospective owners of these highly specialised automobiles will be only too willing to learn from the specialists which will only improve their driving skills.
With the Buddh Circuit now available the availability of a venue is also not an issue.
A few months back we had the very unfortunate incident of Azharuddin's son passing away after crashing his superbike, and now this incident in Delhi.

I hope the Supercar OEM's are listening. The sooner they implement their courses the better .

Is this the LP-550 2 Bicolore edition? Rare RWD I'd say. Unfortunately the owner could not live to enjoy this car or rather he died trying to that.

As the incident happened early in the morning there are no eye witnesses for it. So different news sites are reporting it differently. One of the news site says that he overtook a truck and here the graphical representation shows a Rickshaw.

Does not matter in the end, but then i am surprised with this varied reporting and are the police not providing the correct information to the news sites?

These things happen so fast let alone other commenting , even if the owner had survived chances of him assessing why what and how is difficult , from poor roads to , to no discipline of lanes by drivers or cyclists or pedestrians ..it's a jungle law in our country . From the guy trying to avoid the cyclist to the other extreme of him going extremely fast ..a zillion possibilities of what could have gne wrong , from the poles that ripped the car apart , which could have caused the fatal damage ( noticed in one of the photos a pole inside the car and the rear just ripped apart) ..driving anything above even the basic 100 kms in our country is a risk factor .sometimes an old cyclists could come In front of you at 60 and cause death to himself .unfortunately the Lambo caused all the news to happen , from the politicians who steal all the money instead of laying good roads to the simple rule of not maintaining a lane discipline leads to accidents . Rip owner and car . May all this news helps in creating greater awareness among all road users ....and not become another rich guy killing a poor guy story

500 HP is scary power on any road in any country. It's a nasty accident but it looks like he could have been alive had he taken the right measures. It's not a terrible accident. Severe, but not terrible.

I completely agree with what you say. But what I would love to see is the franchises that sell these cars offer appropriate training to the owners. As a mandatory thing, not optional. They could use the BIC to train owners about the limits of their cars on a track and the streets. There are somethings some people cannot handle.


Also, according to Overdrive editor Sirish Chandran, the driver was not wearing his seat belts. I am genuinely shocked that in a car like the LP550-2 the owner chose to not wear his belts. What did he think he is, Iron Man?

The folly of the owner, along with the fact that some people are just not ready for 550BHP led to this accident. Its sad

No, it's a LP 550-2 Balboni. Which is also a limited edition.

From the graphical representation, it also looks like Mr Rishi was thrown out of the car. Since there are no eye-witnesses, the presumption that he was not wearing seatbelt is strengthened.

But then, what would you call an educated person (who is pobably aware of how all the active and passive safety devices of such a safe car work) who doesn't wear his seatbelt while driving? Wasn't he aware that the seatbelt is a switch to switch on most of the safety devices in the car?

With great speeds comes great responsibilities.

I am glad that in this case other road users dint face casualties because of murderous spoilt brats.

Agreed you have millions at your disposal and you have a supercar , that doesnt mean you take others for ransom , drive a killer machine at 180kmph that too on indian roads.

I really feel unfortunate for the auto driver and the cyclist as they were victims of some idiots fun drive.

Had the cyclist been killed the businessman would have been driving back in 2 days after bribing the police system.

With great power comes great responsibility. Now, only if that prevails in the minds of every exotic/super/hyper car in the world, it would save so many lives and these limited edition cars while they're at it.

Update on the Lamborghini Balboni Gallardo crash in Delhi-
Kishan, the cyclist has survived and is recuperating in AIIMS trauma center. He was badly injured (bled from head) but is now out of danger. Wish all the best in speedy recovery of the cyclist

Kishan lives in Dakshin Puri and works as a security guard in a south Delhi school and was on way to there. He had been commuting on the corridor since last 20 years on his cycle. There's a separate corridor for cyclist on the BRT corridor. I hope he doesn't have to suffer much financial trouble due to the accident.

Badri Nath Dubey, the guard should be praised for his alertness. He quickly made a PCR call. He saved a life! I would appreciate it if someone also gives attention to Kishan, the cyclist and not only to the Lambo driver.
