Nissan launches Safety Driving Forum in India

Nissan has launched the Nissan Safety Driving Forum in India with an aim to increase awareness about safer driving.

IMO, this is a good brand building exercise too.

Note: This event is open to the general public. It will be held in the parking area of "The Inorbit Mall" at Malad on February 16th & 17th, 2013, followed by an event in Chennai.

High Points:
  • Participants will learn the importance of seat-belts and airbags, and how they function.
  • Participants will be allowed to drive Nissan cars and know more about onboard safety tech.
  • Infrastructure includes simulators.
  • Going forward, Nissan plans to provide ABS as standard on all their cars, even on the Datsun brand. Seems a little contradictory as the Rs. 6.5 lakh Micra diesel still doesn't have ABS, and the Sunny has such poor brakes!
  • Nissan's version of the Duster can be expected in the next fiscal year, i.e. 2013-14.

Good info Parrys and a nice initiative indeed by Nissan. However you just took the words out my mouth.
Indeed Micra san ABS had lost many customers lap up a solid and well engineered product.

Also the spongy brakes of the Sunny is now an open secret and does not go well with an otherwise superb package in the sedan space.

Were any of these brought up during the unveiling event of this safety drive and would be interested to know what was the reactions to these by the top honchos of Nissan!

Re: Nissan launches Safety Driving Forum in India

Very good initiative by Nissan. I especially liked the part where they show the car toppling and the importance of seat-belts. Hope some of the audience start realizing the importance of seat-belts after this.

Ironic that they are showing the importance of ABS/ESP when their own vehicles (Micra, Sunny) are notorious for bad braking.

Very good initiative. It's very welcome to know that they will offer ABS standard in their cars going forward. Wish rest of the manufacturers (who have NOT done it or given it a serious thought) also goes this way.

Re: Nissan launches Safety Driving Forum in India

Very good initiative by Nissan! I was really waiting for some manufacturer to pick up the safety cause as a differentiator.
We already have Maruti for VFM, Tata for space, Mahindra for ruggedness, Fiat for dynamics, Toyota for reliability, Honda for snob-value, Hyundai for interiors. It would be really nice if Nissan picks up "safety" and does something concrete (on a sustained basis) so that people start associating Nissan with 'safety'.
