CCTV Footage: Deadly Accident near Mumbai

On security cameras on a road in Navi Mumbai in Thane, 25 kms from Mumbai, a speeding Honda City collides with a van at 11 pm. The car is going so fast that the van, when hit, spins several times and at least four people are thrown out onto the road. One died and three were injured.

OMG. What was that? Did the honda city survive the crash? I doubt it. I played it several times and think the occupants of the car also got thrown out near the zebra crossing. Even if the car did manage to get away, not for long.

The way the guy was thrown off the van looked like he was not wearing the belts! One more incident to reinforce the importance of the belt

Absolutely. Also disturbing is the fact that the indica(standing just near the crossing), saw the accident happening and just went away without a worry in the world. Why is it that the world has come to such a condition?

BTW, any guesses on what the city's speed would be?

UPDATE: The driver of the car, a beauty salon owner named Seema Thakkar, was arrested a day later but was released on bail the same day.
A report to find out whether she was drunk at the time of the accident is still not out.

The Honda City was definitely speeding but the Van driver could have been more careful while crossing the road. If only he would've stopped to check whether there was any oncoming vehicle or not it would've been a different story.

This is the tendency of most of the drivers that they'd enter an intersection and then start tilting their head to see who else is on the road, at times they just wouldn't bother and continue ahead.

Not defending the City driver who was coming to the van like a bullet but these idiots are the reason why defensive driving should be practiced. I see rickshaws/taxis/trucks/buses/cars/SUVs, all sorts of vehicle basically, who just barge in on the road and others who should have had the right of way end up braking hard. Of course, when they don't, something like this happens!

Both of the drivers were at fault but other people getting injured/killed because of them is what makes me sad.

The Honda City was being driven by a Female,who didn't suffer any injuries in the crash,and was later released on bail.The accident happened on 6th August.

That video just gave me goosebumps. The way the people are thrown from the van,just like ragdolls. How come the people fell out the van like that,other then assuming one of the guys fell out through the windshield the others felt like they were flung out of the windows. Also if you may have noticed, the City never made even the slightest of attempts to stop.

The video footage was awfully scary! Scary and sad to see people driving like this when nearing a 4 road intersection

The way the Honda city veered to the left, I'm guessing it would have gone over the sidewalk as well. But, baffled at how someone can get bail so easily after causing such an accident. At least based on the footage they could have denied bail or is this asking for too much ?

Noticed that. In fact looks like there is no attempt made by the Honda City to brake. For all you know, the driver may have been busy on the mobile phone.

Also wondering, if the honda city had airbags, would it have made the driver stop due to the Airbags deploying?

How is this hit and run. Did the honda city drive off?
Hit and run would have been if the vehicle which hit the van would have simply driven off.

What is distressing is the way many other cars are being driven in that video clip. Several near misses all around. A Uno coming from the right (of the screen) just escaped, though he also was a kind of catalyst perhaps, distracting other drivers' attention just before the hit.

May the dead RIP and the injured recover fully.

Is there any info on the Honda City and its driver. Definitely the City won't be in a condition to drive away and off.

In several cities there is a practice of switching off the signal system after a time at night, which is a very dangerous step by authorities concerned.

to make it worse, it was an omni that got hit. basically a chiffon saree in front of the driver. wrong vehicle, wrong spot, wrong time. RIP.

Even if it works, none respects the signal at late nights. Either you are deafened by the horn till you jump the signal, or worse, mowed down by the 'ROAD KINGS'

The video was horrifying. I can't help but blame both of them. The Honda was criminal approaching a four point crossing at that speed. The van I doubt was even paying attention to the road.

The problem most of the times lies in the fact that people are so over confident of themselves that they do not realize the limitations of their machines. We may be really good drivers and may have awesome reflexes, however our machines may not respond to them the way we expect them too.

The news reader mentions in the video that the lady driver ran away and was arrested the next morning.

One of my favourite roads in Bombay - palm beach road from belapur to vashi. Well maintained, but is going to get a lot of speed bumps put in. Again.
