Renault India is set to recall 646 cars in India to fix faulty airbags. The recall is specific to 26 units of the Scala sedan and 620 units of the Pulse hatchback, manufactured between September 2011 and July 2012. The cars have been equipped with airbags supplied by Takata Corp, the world's second largest supplier of airbags and seatbelts.

The Scala and Pulse are manufactured as the Sunny and Micra, respectively, by Renault's global alliance partner, Nissan. It may be recalled that the Japanese company had recalled its offerings in October 2014.

Takata airbags are also used by other manufacturers. Toyota and Honda are among the manufacturers who have issued recalls for their vehicles to rectify the same problem.

Don't you think Renault's recall is a little late? Takata airbags related recall is about to become ancient history. If this is the turn around with Renault, then I'm disappointed with how fast they are doing these things. Issue with Takata was already common knowledge way back.

This probably throws some light on how soon different manufacturers can issue a recall and rectify a problem. Renault seems to be lagging heavily on that front, considering almost everyone else issued recalls long back.

The exact thought that ran in my head. And this, considering the Scala is priced higher than the Sunny!

Looks like they were sleeping when Nissan announced a recall on the Sunny for its airbags.

3 months later.....someone at Renault must have woken up and said 'Waaaaitaaaminutteee", we slap our badges on and sell that same car too! Of course, seeing the Scala's poor sales, you can't entirely blame them for forgetting it's their car, but still

A recent media report indicates that Renault has halted production of the Scala sedan and the Pulse hatchback since a few months now. Business Standard suggests that 183 units of the Scala were last manufactured in May 2014 while 59 units of the Pulse were last manufactured in October 2014. These numbers are based on the data by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). These cars have not been produced ever since, and the company has been rolling out the existing stock of these cars over the months.

Just met a sales person from Renault. Seems Pulse is still sold but petrol comes only in one option, RXL. The OTR is 5.66lac and there are discount for it and once can get it for around 5lac OTR.
